Wild Bunch -- congratulations on you win at the SPA Peach State Classic in Marietta last weekend. You guys played great, and took us to the shed.

Senior Moments will be in Dalton and look forward to playing you if you stay in the Major division.

Shelby,we our now even for the year, three wins each against each other in 2010. And don't forget how you took us to the shed in Montgomery,AL SPA tournament.Like yourselves we only beat Georgia,Alabama Masters by one run,& your team by only two runs on the first game of the double elemination.I hope Ridge has the foresight to match up teams from different geographic locations for the round robin games.

Jim,Ridge called for my stats & scores for the last four SPA tournaments today. We won two of the four SPA tournaments played this year & only by one run in Pensacola. I have four outstanding ball players that our 67 or older on my team playing down one division which is allowed. All games played with SPA this year there was only one blow out which was our last game.Winning our first double elemination game in Maretta by two runs & along with the the high temperture assisted us to win the Maretta tournament. And also for the record the other two winners of the four SPA tournaments was Naples Heat,Pensacola Winter Nat. & Senior Moments in Montgomery AL which beat us 22 to 9.

Wagon,
Neil told me today there were 15 or 16 50 major and 5 50 major plus teams.
7-55 major plus
5 60 major plus Turn Two, Florida, Trump (Tx.) and Omen
It looks like the 50's will be a shoot out with that many teams.

Sorry, but the KC Kids had to drop from the tournament as of yesteday. We were down to the bare minimum of players going to begin with -- since 4 of our player did not want to take off work, or could not get time off to travel on Wed., and then play Thurs. & Fri. Saturday, obvoiusly, was not a issue. Anyway, over this past weekend we had another 3 players drop (due to various reasons -- death in family, etc.).

Majority of our players have played in this tournament in the past, and know how good it is, and really wanted to be there, but it would have "pretty much" been a waste of time, and money, for us to show up with a skeleton crew. Sorry.

Wazoo, I am Larry Lopez of Texas 60s; I met you at the plate for the coin toss before our game. If you are insinuating that I was on one of the Major teams crying to Ridge about your rating, nothing could be further from the truth. My only observation was about several members of your team whom I know from past games when we were all playing Major Plus.

My congratulations to Glenn Grantham as well. I have been wanting to meet him for several years since I played with his son David on the Second Baptist team in Houston. I was glad to finally have that opportunity.

Dalton was a very good tourney. We got to play some good teams and we also saw some old friends.

The only problem I had was that we had to start doubles elimation on Thursday right after seeding games. We could have had to play 4 games in a row but didn't. Brixx and Stixx did have to play 4.
Not good in the 60 division.

Hi, Donnie. I also thought it quite a scheduling quirk that y'all played Omen in the Winner's bracket final on Friday and that was the ONLY game either of you played Friday. That's one way to stretch a tourney out. I found it strange that y'all had FIVE teams and played THREE days.

What a great tournament run by Ridge,
Mickey and his entire group
in Dalton, Ga.
Hot humid weather every day.
Good Baden Fire balls and senior bats
with equalizer home runs at 7 after which were singles.
Great chicken filet sandwiches
for 3 bucks.

Great seeing and meeting Lefty, Diehard,
Dutch, Too Tall, Big Arms,
Gary Deaton, Paddy Mack,
Buzz, Joe Reed, Ivan,
the Colonel, Clatta, Mike Smith,
Andy and Donnie,
and Bogie and his band of monsters,
Roberts Construction which we were lucky to get by in the heat of Sunday
afternoon.

Special thanks to Larry Campbell,
manager of MTC whose leadership
was incredible given very adverse circumstances that we encountered
just trying to get to the tournament.

Great tournament and a great time.
Thanks again, SPA.
Didn't hear of anyone getting hurt.
Lively bats and balls, forever.

Wazoo: Let's face it, on any given weekend your team could play major+. You just happened to have a bad weekend on the National tourney weekend. When your team only scores 11 and 4 runs in their final two games, that means you weren't hitting. That is quite surprising considering the hitters you have. The competition was solid all the way through with no weak sisters like you normally have in the area tourneys. DoubleL: I sure he is talking about some local teams such as one that was to for a better choice of words 'to affraid to come and play in the Nationals'.

I thought that the SPA tournament in Dalton was very well run by Ridge and the whole group ine SPA. The complex in Dalton is great! It was very hot and humid, and after a long day of playing ball, it was nice that they had golf carts ushering players to and from the fields. What a great service. We played in the 55 major brackett, and it was very competitive, great teams all. It was a pleasure to play teams from so many different areas, California, Arizona, Missouri, Ohio, Texas, Georgia and we are from Maryland. It was so much fun. I also got to meet the man, Einstein, great meeting you Joe. Also Don Ward and Bruce Fairchild. That is what Senior Softball is all about, playing hard hitting, highly competitive softball, at a great complex run by a great organization, and meeting and making great friends. I couldn't ask for anything more.

One Major hic-up in the 50 majors.
Metro Stars out of VA were playing Willie Wolfs out of Texas. WW had nine players (they could hit) MS asked the home plate and 1st base umpires if the tenth spot is an out, because WW only has 9 players.
The umps says nope, not an out. Turns out it is an out. It was caught by some other umps watching the game. MS lost 23-22. By the time the game was protested, it was too late. Seems a shame to get knocked into the losers bracket because the umps didn't know the rule. And yes, if the tenth spot was an out, it would have changed the game.

First off All it was nice to Old team mates that I have had the pleasure of playing with and against that don’t live in California , Gary from Minnesota, All my Brothers from Houston ,Texas , Bam Bam , Steve Iman,. Hey George Robinson, Sammy, Joe Rinaldi and the rest of MTC 55 plus CONGRATULATIONS. To forfeit all three games and come back and kick butt, I’m impress. To my old team ……CONGRATULATIONS MAVERICKS, Ken Mavericks don’t die they just multiply.
SPA Tournament this year was worth every cent that it took to get there. Even though we took 4th we were in every game, except for the last game, against the High Street Bucs. Congratulations High Street Bucs on a Good Hitting Tournament. It seems that we had our own three game Series there. We sent you into the loser bracket but you guys had heart and stamina came back and swept everyone else. West Coast ran out of gas. The same things happen to us in Plano, Texas 2004. West Coast ran out of gas against Travel Lodge and was double dipped in the finals. Dalton, Ga. 11 guys in that heat, man that was very unhealthy. You couldn’t warm up. I tried warming Saturday and before the 1st game was over I had to site down because I had felt dizzy. We played 4 games starting at 8:30 am. Finishing at 8pm that evening. I’m So Happy and blessed to live in Southern California. No wonder my family moved the hell out of the South. It was Hotter than Hell down there. But I do love the Food.

It seems a little unfair that a team can come through the loser's bracket to the champiopnship game & overall play less games than the team that was the winner's bracket representative. I am sure there were extenduating circumstances, but it just doesn't seem fair that the advantage that is supposed to be gained by the winning bracket team wasn't. I am sure that Robert's Construction would never complain, but I just don't think that is fair. I would like to get the backgroudn as to why MTC wasn't there for the round robin gamees & the 1st DE game. I hope that is not too much to ask.

Thanks for the kind words for High Street. You guys from West Coast are a very good team and it was a pleasure getting to know and play against you guys. Yes, we did have our own little series within a series, and they were some very good games. We knew that 40 you put up against the Columbus 55's in that heat had to take it's toll on you guys, along with maybe some jet lag.Glad to see you all made it back home safe and sound, and maybe one day we can get out to Cali., to play you guys on your turf.

I asked earlier, kinda rhetorically,
if anyone got hurt with the lively bats and balls we're supposed to be too ashamed to enjoy hitting around.
No one did.
We played 5 games and hit
maybe 5 home runs the whole tournament.
The field was 315 and the wind was blowing in but the ball was lively,
traveled quickly through the infield
and into the gaps which kept the game
fast enough to enjoy.
The championship game went 7 innings
with the two best 55 major plus
teams in the country and the score
was 12 to 10.
Real gaudy and over the top, right????
C'mon, man.

The Robert's Guys, Rudy, are terrific
guys and players and you're right,
have too much class to complain
about coming in second.
There's nothing worse in a tournament
than getting double dipped.
Clatta's team did it to us, Kellys,
in Des Moines a couple of years ago.
You go from feeling so good about everything and yourself to feeling
terrible without relief
right at the end of the event
with no chance to make it right or better.
Bogie, Denny, Duke, Doc and rest
are great guys and players
and could have just as easily beaten
us in that 12 to 10 game
at the end and need to feel and be recognized as one inning away from
the national title.
I know they could just as easily have
won as do all my teammates on MTC.
There's no shame in losing when you play as hard and well
as the Roberts guys
did against us, this weekend.
See at the next one, Bog and his band
of terrific players and men.

No disrespect. I was just wondering the circumstances of the delay.

Having seen in the past complaints regarding the team that plays the round robin games being supplimented with better players for the DE part.

This the first time an entire team skipped the round robin and hell even missed the 1st DE game.

Just messing with you as I know this was not done with that intent. Don't want other teams to think this is a good way to not have to play as many games so they are fresher in the DE tournament.

Having been a former member of Robert's, I still take a keen interest in them, but like I said earlier, they will never make excuses. When we were first starting out, we never took advantage of extra runs or fielders when playing teams ranked higher than us. Duke learned and look where they are today.

Congratulations to both teams.

diehart, Thanks, And we did thank GOD that we all made it back with no major issues. A few aches and pains but that normal. Yea diehard,
I'm look forward to the weekend, when ALL the Top Senior Softball Teams make it out to California. We have some great looking New Complexes besides all the Field of Dreams Stadiums (4) in Southern California that can be accessed. COME ON DOWM, we'll try to be as polite as the Men and Women of Georgia. Good old Hospitality.

Why is it, that we don't have Major Ring Tournaments in California, Especially in Southern California? There is so many places to go and see when your not playing.

I've always wonder why? I've been to New York to Miami to Washington to Virginia to Detroit to Texas to Oregon to Georgia to Minnesota to Utah to Denver and down to Alabama. But no California, Oh yea Arizona too.

I think the Western Nationals are going to be somewhere in Southern California next year. It's obvious that teams will not travel to the Northwest and Salt Lake where they have been the last three years. The tournament has been a joke (with the lack of teams) and SSUSA knows it.
