Preliminary games
Does a player have to play in a preliminary game to be eligable to play in the tournament itself? I know a team has to play but if the player is on the roster and cant show up till saturday, can he play?

Yep. I've done that myself.
It shouldn't be an issue as long as the player is on the roster..
