ASA bats if you are under age
Our league is thinking of a new rule that if you are under 65 you must use a ASA bat. It seems that the guys 65+ just don't want a senior bat missle (this is a rec level league) to deal with. Anyone else have this type of rule and if so how is it working?

Not per se, but we do have one for 50's up, and another for 58's up that are both ASA bats and crapy balls. Also a league night for tournament bats & good balls for 50's up.

madsenior,
We have a league here in Austin that let's the 65 and over hit 'ANY" bat they want. Several hit the Ultra 2. It is an ASA league.

In our senior league we have 4 or 5 divisions, National, American, Masters, and a Monday morning league. We play at an ASA governed park and the open league teams as well as seniors use ASA bats....except for our National league. The park has allowed us to use 1.21 bats if we carry insurance on the team, league and spectators. We have purchased this insurance from SSUSA. The only division to go to 1.21 bats is the National league.
Our National voted on using 1.21 bats probably because most are guys that play in tournaments. I really don't know why the other divisions still use ASA bats, maybe because they would have to spend more money on buying senior bats.
We have been asked to fill out a suggestion form stating our opinion on the bats. Deadline is tonight for returning the form. I'll try to get a count against or in favor.

Bruce, I'm impressed with your insurance coverage - Question does it also cover online Spectators? I was reading your post and fell-off my couch and injured my arm - Can I put in a Claim?

Not an unusual restriction. Our year-round league with mixed ages allows only single wall bats for those under 70, double wall for 70+, and composite for 75+. Works well as members respect the age and declining defensive abilities of the older players. Two other leagues allow any bats approved by SSUSA, but members of those leagues are mostly tournament players and they play on a field that can accommodate the more powerful bats. Balls for these two leagues are not "lively" but not dead or restricted flight, either.

our senior league in tyler is ASA bats and balls.i think we have as much fun as anyone playing with this combo, hey its good enough for the largest assoc(asa) going, why not us.
i also think it should be that way ,as we have such a difference in ages and abilities,it gives everyone a chance to play.

Big D, sure, go ahead and file! I hear that your team broke up.

Bob, I believe the guys in our National league are having a great time with sr bats and Trump Rocks. We'll know when the suggestion forms are tallied.

You should try to go to Classic Spring Training in Jacksonville in Feb. There will be about 100 other softball fanatics there.
I'll be in Pensacola so we will probably play Monster.
It's Woodlawn Hitting Club.
