Has Anyone Else Had Problems With The Reebok ME'LEE Legend Senior Softball Bat Because Mine Cracked After 45 Hits Any Durability Problems?
Well my Reebok ME'LEE Senior Bat Fell apart I had about 45 hits on it, Be Careful if you are thinking of buying one I would not do it, You are better off with a Miken. These Reebok bats are not Durable.

Mine broke after 60 swings. Shipped it to the Reebok Rep for evaluation. I'm still awaiting word. Hopefully they will do the right thing.

I broke a Red Miken II on the first swing, my Reebok has 350 swings on it right now. My expierience with the Mikens was not a pleasant one. I broke 3 and had a total of 250 swings on them. I'll stick with this Reebok for now.

I don't count the number of swings on bats, but I do count how many swings I take in bp and what bat I used. And when a bat breaks on the first swing in a game, you kinda remember that. If you are taking 50 to 100 swings a day to stay on top of your game, that gets real expensive. I just want a bat that will last!!!!

Mario, durability is what is sacrificed when guys insist on the hottest bats around. I don't think there is a very effective way to give the best of both.

When guys want to live on the edge, sometimes they fall off.

Gary19, I agree, but these senior bats are what we have to deal with right now and I'll take the Reebok until I can find something else that will out last them.

Yes we do count swings on new products that have not been proven! You would be a fool not to. My Combat took over 160 swings to get were its real Hot. And I now have over 300 and stopped counting. I DO EXPECT OVER 300 hack at least from this Reebok.

I don't count, but I knew that I had hit 2 buckets of 20 balls one week and noticed the bat was cracked after the first bucket the following week. I have had 3 Red Ultra's break in the past year and a half with not many swings on them, probably a few hundred swings a piece. I have 2 MM Senior Combats that are over a year old and have hundreds of swings on them and still going strong.

Mario, just a suggestion here. To make your bats last you may wish to use a different bat when taking bp. Using your Reebok bat only during games might make the bat last longer. For example, in bp I use a 4 year old Miken Freak Unlimited. In a game I use a TPS Voltage. Only a suggestion

I don't have the money like some of you upper Middle Class People, So how many swings I get on a bat for the money that I paid for it, means a hellava lot to me. The truth about this bat is “IT HOT OUT OF THE BOX! NO BREAKIN BP NEEDED! Use for games only or to show it off. There is nothing like it, unless you use shaved fixed bats.

How about some details about how the bat broke.

1) What part of the bat is broke?

2) What was the temperature when it broke?

3) What kind of balls core/comp were you hitting?

Today, we were hitting in 75 degree temps. My bat 28 EL, 30 swings, hot out of the wrapper. Few stress lines in the paint. 10+ balls over 300', 5 or so over 330', 2 over 360.

My buddy swinging a 29 EL, not typically a HR hitter.Total of 40 swings and it cracks. Typical composite crack around the bat in a jagged pattern. We received our bats from different individuals. Mine came from Hollis, Castro's was part of a group that was sold in Hemet last week. As I understand it, 3 of that group have already cracked.

Overall the bat seems to have comparable distance when compared to my MM and U2. If it cracks anytime before 500 swings, I won't swing another one.

I am expecting delivery of my 28 EL soon and will not take BP with it. I bought this bat because of the hype that is was durable and hope it lives up to that plus has some pop. If it does not will just go back to the U2. I am sure Miken is paying attention to what is going on and hopefully they can make there bats a little stronger. I don't mind a bat breaking in 300 swings but in less than 100 something needs to be done. I guess money talks and we the players should buy the best bang for the buck.

Thanks:

Does anybody have a reebok that hasn't broke in less than 150 swings. I have a 28EL coming in soon and I can't cancel cause I ordered from a friend. He wouldn't knowingly screw anyone and sell them a bad bat .In the late summer when it was hot that's all you heard was how many swings this bat can give a major+ player. I hope they find the problem soon for all of us that want a bat that can last.

I don't order "the bat du jour" anymore until the reviews are in. I remember several years ago I bought a 3DX that a number of guys were touting as "the next great bat". I saw guys swing it and it appeared hot. I used one from a friend after they got knocked out of a tourney and it WAS hot. When I received mine, it was a DUD! Come to find out, these guys were swinging DEMOS and the production sticks were not nearly as good. I will not make that mistake again!

Used the 28 EL in 3 games with great weather. Weighted different than my other bats so my swing was a little off sometimes a lot off. Hit one on the screws..320 fence and it hit 70 feet behind that. My plan is not to use it, except in 80 degree temperatures.

CRACKED my Yellow Melee 27 EL, Did it this pass Thursday less than 80 swings, real hard to see the crack because of the graphics’ but you could hear it when it cracked. I took it to Hemet, CA (SCSSA), turn the crack facing the catcher. 2 Hits with it Sunday, the crack didn't get any larger but I'm sending it back. I also bought a 28 Balance because the word at the Park was that the End Loads are cracking and the Balance bats have been lasting. If anyone has cracked a balance please say so. We have been swing both 27oz balance and end load and the end load are not lasting. If you have one, save it for games, there is no break in period. I found that out the hard way. I was in love with that bat and it cracked much too early. Now I'm hooked on the Distant, The red one has POP good POP but the EL was Ridiculous. I like to hear about the Red Melee Legend

My Reebok balanced has about 30 cuts on it in game competition-holding up so far. I have hit 5 out with it, but am not quite comfortable with the swing of it yet so I am shelving it until after the TOC. It does have pop, for sure. It has been way too cold in Albuquerque to use it for BP.

There may be some bats with flaws as there are flawed items in every product manufactured. It really turns out to be the consumer/customer care that follows an issue. Warm temperature seems to be an important factor. BP in chilly weather may not be wise. On the whole, there has been minimal breakage,as has been the case with other manufacturers products. R&D will address the issues. Perhaps everyone will experience a fair and reasonable outcome. Hopefully, this will result in a better product and will ultimately be a healthy addition to the industry. reebokmeleelegend.com

Pitcherman. I know a bunch of my teammates just got the new bat and they decided not to use them indoors. The balls are regular the temp is 70. I think that the balls and bats will get cold even if they are stored inside. The drive to the cage could have an effect on the bat and balls if the weather is always in the 30s. Thanks Harry

I AM JUMPING ON THIS BANDWAGON- i ordered a 27 oz senior melee balanced on 1/19/11, from a reebok dealer. recd it on 1/24/11, took it to batting practice today ( sunday 1/30 ) in arlington,tx, 72 degrees. hit it about 30 swings, and it cracked 8-10" from the top, all the way around. my problem is that i ordered a 28 oz in november, which " has not" come in yet. i hope they ( reebok ) will allow me to cancell it, if they dont fix my broken bat problem. i emailed surf 88 a copy of the invoice on the broken one today ( 1/30 ). i hope he can handle this for me. 4 or 5 guys on my team were planning to order one, they are holding back now until this matter/problem is resolved. by the way, i am a 69 yr old guy, so i am not a power hitter.

Every manufactured product is going to have some percentage of problems. It comes down to the companies desire to solve problems and correct flaws. It also boils down to their consumer service and cooperation. At the same time, it comes down to how the consumer works with the company. Consumers can choose a patient and cooperative path or a public forum notification, which may not be construed as cooperative by the company.Contact your rep and get the address where bats are to be sent. Send the bat with a brief description of what happened, where it happened, approximate swings and what was temp. Posting it on public forums may not be the best path to take to get problems solved. Just trying to be helpful with this thread. Ed http://www.reebokmeleelegend.com

Surf88, while I respect everyone's opinions here, this is a forum for softball players to share information and I think the fact the these bats are touted as being so durable is the reason why this is a topic that should be shared here. While it is true that maybe the company will do something for all the people that have these durability issues, it still doesn't change the fact that almost-new bats are breaking and the reason I and many others have purchased these bats is the highly touted durability. I do not like having to take my time to deal with this issue even if they do take care of it. It still takes me time and money to resolve it when the only reason I bought this bat was for the supposed durability. Coming from someone who is affiliated with the company, I do not think it appropriate to make veiled threats that if people speak about their problems with the product, that they may not get cooperation from the manufacturer.

Pitcherman, I was a little taken aback by Surf88's implication as well. Seems like a reputable company will stand behind its product and replace any defective bat, whether the customer had complained publicly or not. They must know that if the product is not durable, there will be hundreds of informal private complaints...and to their potential future customers!

Pitcherman and Omar K, well stated. The reps were running from tournament to tournament touting how durable this bat is and taking orders. Now that they are breaking at an alarming rate, we the consumers, are supposed to be quiet and take it on the chin. The " Reebok Rep" that I bought my bat from has somehow nothing to do with the replacement, instead I had to send mine to the East Coast distributor in Mass. and it has been 4 weeks!

Considered how many numbers have been sold and how few problems exist? Remember how many bats have broken from the other manufacturers, including Miken? It happens. I feel a need to respond to negative feedback. My response was no threat. It was designed only to be helpful. Reps have no control over replacement process but can only be helpful to those who have problems. None of us are pleased with the issues but are certainly hoping it will get resolved and the product made even better. I have heard many positive stories from players who have this bat and love it. I plan to refrain from adding to this thread. It is not productive, in my opinion.

Below is a thread talking about a U-II breaking. Tons of guys have shared me that their Mikens were breaking left and right. The point, bats are breaking and companies (plural) need to address the reasons why. When the Melee came out, bats were tested and durability was clearly there. Senior players wanted a new product and sales reached the point that inventory could not meet the demand. So, if the percentage above is close to accurate, that is good but it needs to be further reduced and as hitman said, time will tell. Again, the issue is across the board.

Today I discussed the Melee Legend bat breaking problem with a Reebok Order Taker. He indicated to me that of the Reebok Melee Legend bats he dealt with, about 7% have came back broken.

I don't know about you guys, but I think that 1%-2% is bat breakage is acceptable.

Seven percent breakage is just too much for a so called durable bat.

On Nov. 18, 2010 I hand-delivered 4 melee legend orders to the Las Vegas Reebok rep. A month ago 2 of them were delivered, the other 2 guys are still waiting for theirs (of course their credit cards were charged a long time ago). I am pissed because these guys (who play in our community league)bought in large part because of my recommendation after swinging demos. Why should it take so long, and how the hell can it be that with all these unfilled orders from November one could order one Jan. 19 (see armiho thread above)from a Reebok rep and receive it Jan. 24?

If you are not concerned about great bat head speed and HRs, you place hit good line drives, I strongly suggest you try the Black U2 in a 29 or 30 oz.

My team has had great success with the heavier weighted bats (durability). I have one with 1000s of hits on it (used now only in pre-lim games) and a second I with much less hits I use in Championship games. I am 66 weigh 200 and am 5-10. I swing (29oz) very hard and can still hit it out at times. I think since the U2 came out I have only broken 2. Those after countless hits. I gave a 3rd with many hits on it to a friend and it lasted a year and a half in 14 and 16 inch leagues. Just a thought.

Thanks for the info. However, last year I made the BIG MISTAKE of ordering the Reebok and still haven't got delivery. I didn't realize I was buying into useless words and promises. I wish I could cancel the order, get my money back and be done with it!

I don't think you ordered a Melee. If you had, your rep would have taken care of you. My guys call me and I make sure they get their bat. I really do think you have a smear agenda. If perhaps you really are genuine, then call me and I'll make sure you get your bat. (970) 729-3145.

My buddy who is one of the big guys who routinely hits the ball over 400' hit his balanced Melee today and said it was extremely hot out of the wrapper. After about 40 cuts it had spider cracks but that was it.

Thanks:

My team used a borrowed 26 oz. balanced with 600 hits on it in a game last week and it was on fire. Bat still looked new, no noticeable webbing. Must of been from one of the good batches. I have a $99 U-trip Melee on the way. If it's 75% of the Legend, I'll be happy.

Well Guys, I have bought 3 new Reeboks bats, Senior Melee 27 EL (cracked with 80 swings) Senior Melee 28 balanced (30 swings and I'm scared to swing it hard) and my BP bat- the 28 balanced Vector(with the holes) USSSA bat ($99.99), which now has over 100 swings and has great pop for a USSSA bat, and of course, the harder the ball the further the distant. Th I have high hopes that Reebok replaces the Cracked End Loads because of the high number of issue that they are having with their product. I'm sold on the distance that I was able to get from Melee but I'm still out to lunch on the durability issue. I sure hope that End Loads came from a bad batch, and that we are still able to get a durable End Load.

Only after the first swing. First swing was good contact with Melee 27 EL. On the screws so to speak, but something felt funny, and then I noticed the knob had broken off in my hand. That was Jan 8th. It was sent back, but have not received replacement yet.

I have never owned a Reebok Melee Legend or the Veterans Bat, one of my teammates bought a Veterans Bat when where in Phoenix in Oct. 2010, it cracked in just two (2) months, he is still waiting on his replacement bat. My red Ultra 11 max-load 27oz bat had over a 1,000 swings before it cracked. I have a silver ultra ii 29 oz balanced legacy that still is going strong with over 1,000 swings on it. What is a bat acceptable level for performance and durability for senior softball plsyers?

Great Question!
What is the range of durability (Swings) for Senior Bats that are rated higher than 1.20?

How many swings should we be getting from our bats before the crack?
100?
200?
300?
400?
500?
600?
700?
800?
What is Acceptable?
I would love to get 500 plus swings on any Senior bat.

I have been hitting with a friend who bought a 26 ounce endload Reebok Melee. Some of the balls that we have used were Rocks, which are about as hard as a rock. We estimated that he has put approximately 400-450 swings on his bat with no issues whatsoever. Many of his swings resulted in 330-350 foot distances. I am hoping that I do not receive a lemon when I finally get my bat delivered, which I paid for in early November of 2010. I will keep my fingers crossed. Also, I bought a Miken endload Maxload 28 ounces last year that lasted only 6 FHC games! I do not use my senior bats when it is cold and I did not use the bat in batting practice either except for about 25 swings initially. Also, I loved the Senior Gear Combats; however, mine had had end cap issues. My hope is that the Reebok will last at least 400-500 swings before breaking, especially since durability was a major selling point. I am sure that I will be afriad to swing my new Reebok once and if I ever receive my bat.

Hey Roy. I really enjoyed you in that movie where you played Robert Redford :O)

I think you guys miss the basic point. That is bat speed. Having someone say he got 500 to 1000 hits is totally misleading. Bat speed will determine the life of a senior bat in most cases. After that it will be how well the bat is constructed. Inferior and inconsistent Chinese manufacturing processes have been the culprit in the recent flurry of bad carbon fiber bats. Even bat companies that have reps living there and being at the factories daily hasn't helped. I guess now that they aren't poisoning our children, dogs and drywall they are picking on senior bats :O)

I was just "browsing" and saw a Reebok Melee Legend, 30oz, EL, ready for shipment, on ebay. The problem? It has a BLUE barrel (it shows it on the bat) instead of the RED or YELLOW. Since I've never seen one - or even heard of one - is this another version?

It is not a matter of dishonesty. It is more that no one had their crystal ball and truly realized how big this would become and they were not prepared. The past few months have been catch up and with each week, they are gaining ground. It has been unfortunate for some but it getting better and will continue to do so. Yours is most certainly on the way.

I finally hit with my 28 ounce end loaded Reebook this past Saturday and Sunday. It took about 50 swings to get used to the end load feel of this bat. I was swinging a 28.5 ounce Jeff Hall end load that actually felt lighter than the 28 ounce end load Reebok. I was late in swinging the Reebok initally since it was swinging quite a bit heavier than I expected. The end load must be heavier than my Jeff Hall. However, when I finally started swinging more towards left center/center, I started hitting bombs. Logically, I suppose the trampoline effect increased once I started swinging more towards left center/center. It made a big difference with my particular swing. I probably swung the bat approximately 100 times total this past weekend. It is definitely broken in now and is staying in my bat bag until tournaments. I do not see any signs of breaking whatsoever. So far so good and then some.

Today I got delivery of my before Christmas 2010 Reebok Melee Legend bat order.

The bat was promised to be delivered before the end of January 2011.

The delivery is about 3 weeks late.

So I believe it would be fair and reasonable to give Reebok Customer Service a "D" grade.

Since I only got the bat today, I can't give any grade about the bat's durability question at this time.

Stay tuned....

Discussion: Has Anyone Else Had Problems With The Reebok ME'LEE Legend Senior Softball Bat Because Mine Cracked After 45 Hits Any Durability Problems?

Sounds like NEGATIVITY to me!

I have to agree with you ! I am a small Texas Rep for Tanel360.If there is a problem with "anything" I sell you and you get in touch with me and tell me the problem, I replace it....PERIOD, no questions asked.
That's why I tell everyone, the reason I wear Tanel and Play for Tanel is "quality, but the best customer service I have ever dealt with. And being a remodeling contractor, I have dealt with all kinds off customer service. And Tanel has the best there is !!!

He seems to think that anybody that tells the truth is being NEGATIVE! I guess he can't handle the truth. Truth is truth weather it is negative or not. It looks like he just wants it covered up or simply not discussed and hope these problems go away. Softballnuts is telling his story about his Reebok experience and it bugs surf a great deal. It don't take much detective work to read it in his posts. From what I have read of softballnuts posts, I see no reason why he would lie. And I see nothing of him promoting any other bat or company.

Rational responses to some individuals is not always helpful. I believe the Melee is a good bat. The manufacturing and shipping in the beginning, did not meet demand and did not fulfill what was promised. There were and there are good people who have been trying hard to help players and to provide good customer care. I am one of those Reps. I will continue to help, to serve and to represent this product to the best of my ability. To those who are upset and unhappy, I hope in the long run, the Melee will bring you the enjoyment you ultimately hoped for. On behalf of those of us who have worked hard to try to make this a little bit better for you, thanks for the opportunity to share this response. All your views are appreciated and understood. I respect your right to post. Hope to see you on the fields somewhere in the coming year and to all thanks for your patience and your understanding.

The Melee has good pop. It is not double what U-II has but it is absolutely equivalent and I believe more durable at least for now. I'm sure Miken, Combat and everybody else will begin (or have already begun) to modify manufacturing to compete at a higher level. It is only logical to think that will happen. In the meantime contact your person or shop of choice and try a Melee to see for yourself. Everybody has an opinion as to what they like.

Today it was warm enough (70 degrees) to take about 50-60 hits on my new Reebok Melee Legend bat.

The bat feels good to swing.

Most of the balls were 44/375 "Rocks".

I was able to hit most balls well. The balls seemed to shoot off the bat. I hit 6 of those balls about 340-380 feet.

I noticed the bat showing the "webbing".

As for bat performance an "A" grade.

Something I noticed was that the bat seemed to "vibrate" in my hands.
Weather this is good or bad, I don't know at this time.

I have yet to investigate or report on the "durability" issue.

STAY TUNED....

WOW...What a surprise!!
Within an hour, I got a response from surf88, (Ed Andrews). He let me know that Reebok, is taking care of the bats that break prematurely, on a case by case scenario. I shipped off my broken 26oz balanced Melee back to the Bat Return Department of Reebok International. Ed is going to hand deliver a new Melee to me in Mesquite, in a week and a half at the SSUSA Spring Nationals!! Having played ball for the last 30 years, I have never received this kind of Customer Care from any of the other bat manufacturers. I have broken 1 other brand new bat (not going to mention who, (MIKEN)), within 25 swings & was told that I was out of luck. Surf88 has gone out of his way to make it right & I didn't even buy it through him. My faith in mankind has been reaffirmed.

Thank You Very Much Ed - surf 88
