Feb. 5, 2011 pitcher55 Men's 55 130 posts | hip replacement anyone ouy there with both hips replaced? 6 years ago i had a total replacement on one side.it slowed me down a little.my other one is shot.a hip joint injection every 2 months keeps me playing.without those shots, the pain gets bad and i would be the slowest on the team.been putting it off a couple years now.if i had the other one replaced, could i run good enough to keep playing? i'm a pitcher, but on a new team and playing more outfield. |
Feb. 6, 2011 ALLPRO 63 posts | I had one hip replaced in Dec. 07 (still giving me trouble) the other in January 09 (like new). I am playing again as catcher and AH, but just barely able to get to first base. Two things have caused me problems, serious weight gain (about 40 pounds)and I contracted c-diff with the first replacement (almost killed me) and MERSA with the 2nd, so my circumstances have not been typical. With proper rehab and proper weight for your body type I believe you should return to near normal running ability. I wish you a healthy recovery and a quick return to softball. |
Feb. 6, 2011 Player 86 posts | After much research, I settled on a Birmingham Hip Resurfacing Unit. It's not a "total hip replacement" as they do not cut the bone. I had mine done Aug. 28, 2006. On Feb. 3, 2007, I ran a 5K race. My time was under 12 minutes a mile which wasn't the best, but good enough. I now play the outfield, run for myself, and, on occassion others. Check into it as the recovery and rehab is rapid and it has greater life than taking the total route. |
