Don't understand if the cut-off for entry was the 1st of July why we don't know when we will play. Only answer is late entries???

My team is coming from California and I am much more concerned with the weather reports than game times. Is MSN's prediction of thunder storms worth worrying about?

I have been watching Dalton weather all week and most everyday there is a 30-40% chance of rain but not much happening so far. most rain is south of Atlanta.
Late afternoon and early evening only, so we will probably be fine.

I got my email about 5 today. Us and Florida are the only 2 major plus teams. It is ashamed we have to play each other in all the games because other teams do not want to play us and Florida in 2 practice games.
Good luck,
Donnie

I just checked and seen there were some teams in the 55 major plus but the 50 and 60 major plus only had 2 ea. What happen to all the teams?

Donnie, I believe that if you're classified major plus there just aren't enough other major plus teams in you region to make playing qualifiers worth while. Sure you can compete against other divisions but it's just not as "fun" playing equalizers, giving runs or an additional fielder to a team.
This is one of my reasons for not playing major plus this year.
There are 17 teams in the 50 major bracket.
See you this weekend!

Donnie, I certainly hope you guys did not have to pay $695 for a best 3 of 5 against Ed Rose's team! That is NOT a 4 game minimum as the tournament advertised. For a National tournament, playing NO pool games is a joke. Whatever happened to the 60 Majors playing pool against the Major Plus? SPA should schedule the games and if the 60 Major teams don't play (and I've seen this quite often this year where 60 Majors would not play our 65 M+ team with NO penalty), they should be given the worst seeding possible for the DE portion, or, better yet, start DE with a loss.

Bruce, I did have a lot more fun playing 60 Majors last year than I have playing 65 M+ this year. Just no teams to play and when we play locally, teams just don't play us even when scheduled to! AND, they get no penaly (other than a loss) for screwing us out of a game. AND SPA has not cared about that all year from where our team sits.

LL, at one time if a team declined to play a rr game they couldn't continue in the tournament.
That should be brought back!
Good luck this weekend.

Received my e-mail from SPA around 4:45PM,theirs 11 60 major teams in the tournament. Our round robin games start Thursday at 10:00AM against D & K Softball & Texas Makul's at 1:00PM. The double elemination starts at 3:00PM. Its shocking to here that theirs only 2 teams that entered the 60 Major Plus division. See Ya all in Dalton.

I don't understand the mindset of not wanting to play a M+ team in pool play. Why not? I consider it a challenge. We got to play several teams last year m or m+ and I loved it. We didn't even have the equalizer a couple times.
I have always believed you get better by playing the best. Good luck to everyone in Dalton.

Larry,
You are correct. We would have been better off jusy to meet Florida and play ourselves.
We are forced a lot of times to play against the 55 major plus teams ( Salem & Manassas) but we don't complain or dry about it. We might not like the idea but we go out and try to win and we win a few games here and there against the younger teams.
I can understand the kids complain about playing stronger teams but adults I do not. The TD's just don't have the balls to tell the lower teams to play or go home. What did these teams do years ago when everybody played everybody.
There will never be any teams in the major plus division because the organizations will not push teams up and then most teams do not want to play the competition.
Good luck

Larry,
Who are you playing with this year and how many 65 major plus teams are you aware of tht are playing?
Wonder how the 60 majors would like it if 3-5 of our 65 year old players would drop down on one of the local teams and play? Would they refuse to play then?

No one asked us to play the M+, we have played 65 major+ several times this year so they would have games to be played. We didn't make the schedule or refuse to play anyone, that i know of. We haven't done well in these games but play who we are scheduled to play.AC legends(60). We already have 3 65's on our roster and most teams do also. Talk to SPA not the other 60 teams, see you in Dalton, on ther road in one hour.

larry i do know we didn't play you guys in OKC b/c of the weather,it was 40 degrees with 25-50 mph winds, made for a cold and miserable day.i do understand your plight tho,as there are no teams locally for you to play, hell we usually play 60 M teams for pool most of the time, occasionally playing you guys also.
i think the timing of the western worlds along with this tourney has something to do with the turn out for dalton also.

JB,
I was not talking about anyone team. I was just stating what I was told by SPA. This is just not in the 60's it is in all age groups.
We have 6 starters that are 65 and we are just as old but we still are forced to play the 55's.
I would have no problem spotting runs or players to 60 majors just to be able to play someone your own age. They just will not let us do that. The organizations just punish us and others because we are major plus.

It is too bad that you were not in Indy in May. There were plenty of Major and Major Plus teams, and they played round robins to play everyone. It would have been a lot less money and a lot more fun for you.

Donnie, I'm playing with Guru Softball out of Texas. We played in Reno earlier this year and there were 5 M+ teams in our group. One team has since been reclassified to Major. The Florida Legends came out to Reno along with Omen, First American Title and us. The now reclassed team is California Classics. Also, I've been following the teams signed up for Manassas. At this point the only 65 major/major plus team is us. And, you are 100% correct in that the TDs do not enforce the play or go home rule in the seeding games. Our sponsor argued in Baytown that the 60 team that was supposed to play us and did not should either have entered the DE phase with a loss or been forfeited out of the tournament to no avail. So, our "guarantee" of X games turned out to be X-1 and we did not get a pro-rata refund on our entry fee to my knowledge. We did, however, get a FORFEIT win! That was our last local SPA event.

Larry,
Your team might get a chance to drop down with us and get to play the 55 major plus teams in Manassas. HaHa.
Maybe R.B. will look out for you guys. I know where we will probably have to play.
Hope to see you in Manassas.
