With their only being around 16 teams why would they make three division their should only be upper and lower. What do you guys think
Their are 6 triple a team 9 major teams and 3 major plus teams
Because they seem to think that everyone has to win something ... like little league.
The 40's are to evenly matched when i started playing seniors we got beat so much that i just made my team better to compete and now we when the worlds they start a major plus bracket that only have 2 teams and we are both from so cal very boring
Yes, the Major-plus program needs to be eliminated at the 40+ level also.
looking to start a 40+ team and want to know some things that you vets wish you knew at the beginning.
Players arer all from AZ made up od E/D USSSA players with good understanding of USSSA tourney ball.
Little off topic but the thought of 40 year old guys swinging Senior Bats is pretty scary.....
Don't quite see the need for the division. Most guys are still very competitive with the kids when they are in their 40's.
Way scary, FOFO! And then, their excess HR's are OUTS, which has them hitting the ball through the middle. I don't get it! I've always said drop the 40+ for your reason stated, but start a 45+ division which would help the strong 50+ teams have some more teams to play with not that bad of age difference to compete with.
I like the idea of a 45 Jaw. I just think 40 is a little young for Senior status and bats, although having just pitched in a kids tournament, I think they may be swinging hotter bats than we are. The cheating going on is sad.
As for the initial post I would agree that with that few teams upper and lower may be the way to go.
Sometimes you have to watch what you wish for, you might just get it. Senior bats are for senior softball. It's not fair at all to limit their use to just a few. Either we all use them or we don't!
Jeff, I think you know which way the vote should go on that one.
The reality is that the kids are using hotter bats than we are. The cheating going on in kids ball is ridiculous.
FOFO, so true. But don't you think those kids would jump at the chance to play senior ball at 40 if they can swing the senior bats without cheating?
Crazy Joe.ASA has gone to two divisions for 2012 for 40's
Pricer, I don't think so. It is in these kids blood to doctor bats, that's what they do. They feel they can make a better bat than the senior bat offers. In 10-15 years, bat cheating will be the norm at 50+.
pricer like jawood says,if they are cheating as yougens,it will continue as they come into the senior programs,it is in their blood.....
The 40 program needs to have a rankings system, how can teams that have mostly E and D ranked Utrip players compete with teams that have A, B and even Major ranked players? Senior softball should look at the buildup of the rosters and do a quick search of players and rank them accordingly off of other associations. Not just assume that all new players are ranked as a mojor player.
Do you guys really think current seniors didn't cheat as "kids/youngens"? That cheating will only come to senior ball when the current generation of 40+s come into that level?
Ever hear of tennis balls stuck inside bats? Or the bat lengths being extended? Were those as effective as shaving composites? Probably not. But did they occur, and were they cheating? Absolutely!
They did a study on 'corking' a bat and concluded the corking itself did not improve the liveliness, that it was the reduced weight that resulted in more bat speed that gave the appearance of a livelier bat. Same with tennis balls. However, I never did meet one single person that was cheating that way. I am also sure it never became as prevalent as shaving is, either.
Probably wasn't as prevalent because it wasn't as easy or as effective with the bats that were around back then.
I could be wrong, hope I am, but I am not so sure it would not have been 20 years ago if it was as easy as it is now.
I think the original question was in regards to the 40's moving into senior ball and something should be done about the talent they bring. My point was if they are 40 and swing the senior bats, they will be hooked. They can swing bats almost as lively as the cheater bats they swing with the youngins and not break any rules.
Question for all. Did you consider yourself a "Senior" when you were 40?
I dont think anyone ever considers themselves a senior, but it does give the 40s a place to play with out all the %$#^ talking and also eliminates the dirty bats, keeps everyone on a more even playing field as far as equipment goes, nothing worse then playing in a backyarder and a 150 pound kid comes up to bat with a new shiny bat a proceeds to blast a ball through the middle at mach speed.
A couple of weeks ago in my city league, we played some youngsters clearly swinging altered bats. They dropped a 25 spot on us in the 1st inning, with some small guys hitting absolute bombs. We come up in the top of 2nd, manager calls time out and questions our legal Synergy Plus....seriously!!! Umpire removed the bat from play. Talk about the height of hypocrisy. BTW, I'm 55 and play on a team of mostly 50 plus guys.
for what reason did the ump give for removing the bat, syn+ is a utrip bat, were you in an ASA league.did you ask the kids if you could use your senior bats to even out the dirty bat situation.
mad dog,
you are right, syn+ is a utrip bat, league is asa, so that is the reason. my buddy thought the syn+ was ok, he knows now. my point is young guys using shaved bats and then having the audacity to complain about opponents equipment.
Pricer, I agree with your thoughts. I guess the thought of 40 year olds swinging Ultras isn't any more frightening than them swinging the cheater bats they currently swing. Heres to hoping we see no altered senior bats.
As for Ranking them, If they only have a limited amount of teams, seems an upper and a lower division might work.
