Nov. 5, 2003 STONEMAN Men's 50 535 posts | I HAVE TAKE SOME COMPOSITE BATS, WRAPED THE BAT IN A TOWEL, & HIT THAT BAT AGANIST A TREE STUMP, 40 to 50 TIMES. I KEEP A LOOSE GRIP WHEN I SWING. MOST METAL BATS TAKE 100 to 200 SWINGS TO BREAK A BAT IN. SOME PLAYERS USE A RUBBER MALLET & SOME USE A BOWELING BALL. GOOD LUCK. |
Nov. 6, 2003 Walk 192 posts | I use a bowling ball to break in my bats. Just put a towel over the ball and lightly hit the bat against it. Remember to always turn the bat. It works real well. Walk |
Nov. 6, 2003 TerryDarc 22 posts | I'm a newby with these new high-tech bats, so forgive the stupid question, but what physically are you accomplishing by swatting the bat around on trees, bowling balls, whatever, as opposed to simply using it in batting practice (and rotating it) for 40-50 or 200 swings? Does this warm up and reshape the foam core or loosen up the alloy of the bat or the composite material? What gives, please? =Terry |
Nov. 14, 2003 KillAbrew Men's 60 55 posts | Terry, the reason those others use a tree or a bowling ball is to more precisely hit all areas of the barrel. So the whole hitting surface breaks in evenly. A hard thing to do in BP. Both processes do wrok well. |
