What makes a tournament a national tournament
to me the term Nation when applied to a tournament means that it is open to any and all teams with a national title awarded the winner. The East West Winter etc just describes the location where the tournament is held. any other thoughts???

Steve, if that is the case what tournaments are not open to any and all teams? If, for whatever reason, a team from Oregon wanted to enter a tourney in Georgia my guess is they would be accepted. So does that then make the Georgia tournament a National?

I see these tournaments being called National as using the name to attempt to attract teams from a wider area--and I see nothing wrong with it--but then I see nothing wrong with the CRs senior bats the mat extra 1st base etc as we all play by the same rules and the same field so all is equal for both teams therefore making the team that hits the best runs bases the best and fields the best the winner--and that all comes down to comraderie and friends so why oh why doe severything have to be explained and/or changed--if someone has a good idea to improve the game then post it but why knock what so far works--another thought on calling them Nationals--the smaller tournament if you realize it are held in places without adequate hotel rooms for large numbers of teams but the Nationals are held in places with many more hotels restaurants etc

Gary I did not feel like typing all of this again so just made short generalization to start the thread---no team is denied access as to my knowledge --the use of national is an appeal thing in my mind

Then a team from Canada enters and you have a World... or at least a North American Continent.
Personally I do not like the name descriptions but it is only a name. With or w\o real meaning.

steve-my wife also calls me an instigator. In the long run I am still happy to be able to play at a competitive level and I don't care what they call a tournament. Wow, I would have ulcers if I worried about all of the things Gary worries about.

Steve65,
Thanks for the politeness. But not needed. How about tait, taits or scott...?
I have instigated a few in the past when I first joined this and a few to Gary as well. Most of those were on one or the other of the other two monikers he used here.
Am not playing now* or would add to list. (*Not by choice)

Steve--I played with Jim & Joe years ago---will you all have
a full team this year????How many tournaments are you going
to this year?????
To ansewer your question----a true National Tournament is
developed over time--they start out local and if they are
run good--like Dalton, they get larger and teams come farther
away that make them National
Wes
PS I gave up on Jim Boys 70 last year and will play for
ABC 65 in Nashville and Wells Fargo 70 out of St Louis
