April 23, 2006 slomo 47 posts | Death of a Hero We started senior league play last week and Jimmy Costello wasn't there. I asked around and nobody knew why. As I read today's paper I found out why Jimmy Costello is not playing ball. He and his wife were pictured, obviously grieving, at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery where they were burying their son who died a hero in Iraq! It breaks my heart to think how difficult it must be for a father to bury his son. I can only hope that Jimmy realizes that most Americans grieve with him and his wonderful family. Jimmy has always been so very proud of his son and I'm sure, while hurt, and maybe even broken inside, that pride is just as strong as ever. Whether you agree with the war or not, Most of us feel this nation owes a depth of gratitude to the Jimmy Costello's of this great land. He gave us his son. May God repay him because we cannot!
