Cost To Manufacture a Bat
It would seem that most of the composite bats are produced by a very similar manufacturing process. If that is the case, why is there such a wide range of prices? Is it a matter of what the market will bear or is there a basic formula to determine mark up? How much does it cost to manufacture and market the typical senior bat that is priced about $200? I'm sure that there are some out there who know exactly.

I was in the plastics industry for 25 plus years, everything I ever made the eventual markup from the original manufacturing was 90 per cent. I wouldn't be surprised if the manufacturing cost is $20.00. Once it is made it has to be packed and shipped, advertised, shipped to you and the beat goes on.

There are different grades of quality resins, carbon fibers, etc etc. Some bats are manufactured with more lamination wraps on them, etc etc. Marketing, handling, shipping and advertising all enter into the equation.

I would say the biggest cost would be reserch and devlopment. Companies may spend 100 thousand on testing and retesting employees time to take the bayt to the fields and work on feel flex if its too hot how to tone it down and may go thru a couple hundred test models before the formula is just right. Then thousnds of dollars on Ads and promotional products before they see any profits . But the actual cost of making the bat, just materials only I would say somehwere are 18-22 dollars apiece.

Not counting labor and shipping
