March 12, 2004 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | AA teams playing Major +? I would like everyone's opinion. If you play on a AA or AAA team, do you have a problem playing against a Major or Major plus team in a tournament? The reason that I ask is that 3 years ago Faith Electric (Major Plus) would play in the SPA qualifiers in the southeast. There weren't any other Major Plus teams to give them any competition and they ended up playing AAA and Major teams. Hooks finally decided the Faith would be able to play in these tournament but each game that they play would be a loss for them. They agreed, saying that they only wanted to practice any way. Last year our team, the Pensacola Hitmen (Major) played in the Baytown Classic. On Friday, we played a AA team and a AAA team. The other teams in the 50+ bracket complained and we were told that we had to play Misson (Major Plus) the best two of three games. Are there any other tournaments run this way? Do you have any solutions to the problem of AA and AAA teams playing Major and Major Plus teams? |
March 12, 2004 Jim Men's 65 9 posts | Bruce: Two common solutions are: 1) Lesser ranked team get 5 runs for each level of opposing team they must play. Or, choice of, 2) Lesser ranked team gets an extra player. Example: -- AA team plays a major team and gets a choice of 10 handicap runs or an extra player. AAA plays a major team -- choice of 5 additional runs or an extra player. ... Interestingly, I've observed the most negative reactions come from the teams that must do the "giving." The "getting" teams still think they're taking it in the ------. Best regards, Jim |

A 55 Major world play a 50 AAA, as there are many more 50 AAA around than majors in 55. Just a thaught you can discuss with your next tour director for a better chance to play. |
March 12, 2004 Elmo Men's 50 69 posts | Bruce, I don't mind giving if the ratings are fair. I think we're a good major team, but we were moved to major+. There are some very good AAA and AA teams out there. How many tournaments will we go to this year and have two or Three major+ teams to play. Probably very few. So what to do? |
March 12, 2004 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | Len, maybe 5 runs per class would work. A Major + team would give a AAA team 10 runs and give 15 to a AA team. Should the Major + team play with the AAA and AA home run rules? |
March 12, 2004 armyho211 Men's 60 52 posts | BRUCE, as a AAA player, i would like the 5 runs per classification, AAA rules to apply on HR'S. additional HR'S could be outs or singles. 5 runs max per inning. i would be more concerned about AA teams playing major and major plus from the point of hurting somebody. the big guys hit the ball too hard, and most of the AA players dont have the skills to handle the hard shots , especially in the infield. also, any losses or wins (hA ! ) by the AA teams over the major or major plus teams should not count in the tournament standings. my .02c, thanks! March 13, 2004 BruceinGa Men's 70 3233 posts | If a game is played where a hr is an out, the lower class team should be allowed to have 11 men play defense. This might reduce the times that the Major or Major + team would choose to hit the middle. In this situation the Major or Major + team should be limited to 10 defensive players. |

March 13, 2004 TexasTransplant Men's 70 516 posts | One of the most discouraging things about lower classification teams playing Major and Major+ teams is standing on the field for a 20 run all-you-can-get inning. The rest of the game the 5 run rule minimizes the damage, but by the last inning, when the AA team is usually seriously out of the money, there is no relief. The all-you-can-get inning frequently becomes batting practice for the major team. Some major teams obviously try to make outs, but that's humiliating for the team in the field. Maybe there's a way to force the major team into the home team position if they are ahead by a certain number of runs to eliminate this situation. Otherwise, I enjoy occassionally playing the big boys. |
March 15, 2004 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | Umpers... My teams are ALWAYS playing UP. Try to have them look at it this way: They got there some how, usually by hard work, alot of discipline and dedicated players. We do not like being beaten like we usually are but we do learn from the game. Best lessons were from the Bandits team. Tho I do not agree with some "rules" they play by, they get results. Lessons learned or remembered are only good if put into play or action. |
