My Daughter
Life isn't always a game of softball, sometimes life challenges seem overwhelming: My Daughter, Jacki, had a good day after receiving an immunoglobin treatment. Her plasmaferase treatments leave her exhausted and temporarily anemic, so the IVIG treatments relieve the fatigue and breathing difficulties. She forces herself to sit...up in a chair for several hours a day so to keep her ab muscles strong and increase her respiration. In a nutshell, her mobilization has improved.
Her pneumology team has requested that she be placed on the emergency priority list for a lung transplant. Normally one has to be intubated to do it, but the docs said 'there are ways around this.' The team's logic is that she is young (36 yrs), has a better chance of survival than most on the list (50 yrs +) and that she is wasting her young life being 100% incapacitated. The biggest criteria is chance of survival and that is why gaining weight and muscle strengthening are vital.
I believe if the transplant network approves the request this will give Jackie the mental boost to continue with getting stronger and stronger. These lungs might come sooner and she needs to be ready for them.

Psalms: "I cried unto the Lord, and He heard my prayer"...O Lord, you are the Creator of life and its sustainer. You bring our first breath and watch over us until our last. Lord, I do not know this dear family; but, I know that you do! You are acutely aware of all of Jacki's needs and I join with others all over our country seeking your will, your blessing, and your healing. Please give her strength for the moment, hope for the future, and assurance that she can trust you. Thank you, Lord. Amen

Capt. Kirk, May the lord see your daughter through to a speedy recovery. The game of life is much bigger and more important than the game of softball. Wishing her a big win in the game of life.

We pray for the family as well, that they would have your peace through all this and that you will get the glory when all is said and done Amen!!!!!

Thanks everyone for your prayers and kind words. My daughter is doing better she has been released from ICU and is at Rehab center getting stronger so that she can be ready for a new set of lungs:
I’m Jacki and I am 36 years old. A bit over 4 years ago I had a double lung transplant at the University of California, San Francisco, due to idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension. In early 2012, I was diagnosed with acute rejection and donor-specific rejection with HLA antibodies. The resulting bronchiolitis obliterans is the real mechanical problem after all the damage from the HLA antibodies.

From late February 2012 to May 2012, I went from dancing 3 times a week, going out, traveling and enjoying life to being basically homebound on supplemental oxygen 24/7. This is a real test for someone who detests routine and a monotone life! My sweet boyfriend Giraffe went out and bought me a Playstation 3 so I could escape a little bit. Little did he know I would soon be humiliating him in Tekken 6.

It is very hard to get through every day, but I feel supported and loved by my family, friends and my boyfriend and his super-supportive family. Also, thank goodness for dreams and imagination….I have to live with those two things a lot more now that I don’t have my body.

Now I am living in Lausanne, Switzerland with Giraffe waiting for my 2nd transplant at CHUV. This blog is to pass the time (I have nothing but time!) and perhaps other people waiting for transplants will find my blog and can relate and share.
