July 21, 2006 MK39 Men's 50 333 posts | SSWS has Catherdral City Big League Dreams Park SSWS has the Cathredral City Big League Field of Dreams Complex for the Senior Softball World Series. For those who have played in one of these beautiful parks , you already know what i am talking about and for those who have not, you are missing a softball Players Dreak Park. The first session is September 16th - 19th in the 65 - 80 year bracket. The 2nd session is the 50 - 60 age bracket on september 21st-24th. Tournamnet Director is Vicky Oltean at 760-323-8272. All entry forms and other documents can be found at http://www.nascs.org This is a great Senior Softball event and we have been going to it the last 3 years. This event started in 1985 by the late great Ken Maas and will be his 2nd memorial event since his passing. Ken was a true pioneer of Senior Softball and his family is carring this event on in his memeory. Hope to see you there. Mike Kelly Kelly\'s Sports 50 Major Plus |
July 22, 2006 DoubleL10 Men's 70 905 posts | Thanks, Mike. I had hoped SSWC might play some games there. It seems like just a short time ago I played there with you, Skip and the rest of the guys and had a great time! Look forward to seeing you there! LL |
July 22, 2006 MK39 Men's 50 333 posts | We played there with skip and the boys back in 1998 and i can still see it like it was last week. We were a 45 team playing against 35 year old teams who beat us up pretty good and it was the first time i played agaisnt the mavericks who were a 50 year team and who also beat us up pretty good and let me know that the 50's had some great teams that i would get to know better 4 years down the road. I can still see Greg Garrett launcing one while he was still healthy. The park has incredible atmosphere and i have yet to find a nicer park. Of course Fenway with the green monster is my favorite being a right handed pull hitter with just enough pop to get it over the Green Monster wall in left field. You i remmember hit on the all fields including Yankee Stadium which i think was a little bit more then the 300ft signs said. Here is a link to thebig league dreams web site which shows the fields and all the other goodies like batting cages, inside resteraunt, etc. http://www.bigleaguedreams.com/ Looking forward to seeing you again Larry Lopez as it has been to long. July 27, 2006 salio2k Men's 60 547 posts | My manager tells me that Vicky only has BLFOD for Thusday and Friday. That means that we'll have to play these World's at Demuth. Not looking forward to that. Sal.......55 Major |
July 28, 2006 DMac Men's 60 207 posts | Growing up in New York, Mickey Mantle was a god and millions of kids shared the drean of playing center field for the Yankees. Several years ago I got a chance to play at the Field of Dreams and our first game was at Yankee Stadium. As I walked out to right center the feelings I had were incredible and I literally had goosebumps. The leadoff hitter proceeded to smack a knuckling liner which completely ate me up. As I chased after my error, I couldn't help but think of the irony of it all. Despite that "reality check", playing there was a blast. |
