Sept. 14, 2012 blonde56 33 posts | LOOKING TO PLAY IN VEGAS Outfielder looking to play in Vegas worlds. My team is not going but my husband's team is. Great speed, good stick. Give me a call if you need a player. 909-238-3837...Thanks. |
Sept. 14, 2012 d45 160 posts | If I am not mistaken, a player can't just "pick up" with another team unless that player is on that team's roster, and has played in a qualifier with that team. Someone correct me if I am wrong. |
Sept. 15, 2012 Duke Men's 65 908 posts | I am not quite sure if the women play by the same rules that the men play by. Assuming that they play by the same rules, then a player could get picked up by another team, even though, they did not qualify with that team. In general, only if a team was short players for whatever reason per SSUSA rules. I believe that number is down to less than 12 players. For example, if there was a 50 AAA team short of players, they could pick up am older player from the 55 or older group to add to their team, as long as they were not more than one level higher in ability. In other words, they could pick up a 55 AA, AAA, or Major player. All of this with the approval from SSUSA. Hope that helps. Unfortunately, the lady above, has not given anyone enough information to make that call. All I can tell from her information, is that she is from California. Now that I mention that, the player should also come from a bordering State. Andy Smith |
Sept. 18, 2012 surf88 Men's 65 1000 posts | My team is not going to Worlds and I am available to play if needed. I have played 60's and 55's this year. Have a 60 AAA rating. Play 1st and outfield, good speed, glove and bat. If you need to know more, call (970) 728-3144/729-3145. |
Sept. 18, 2012 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | On the rules, time was a woman could play on the mens teams. Not sure if this is still he case but I played on a team that had them. Might be worth a call to their office to find out. Rules were set up very differently and still are. Ask your hubbies mgr. Can cause ill feelings with some players. Ed, sorry to read you plans fell through. |
Sept. 19, 2012 surf88 Men's 65 1000 posts | Thanks Scott. You know that I can help a team win some games and so perhaps a team needs some help. Have been playing with/against some scrappy young Spanish boys so I am prepared. You might look into Dr Rubio in Tijuana. He has been very active with stem cell research and therapy. That back issue might be a applicant for his expertise. Check it out. |
Sept. 19, 2012 Gary19 Men's 50 2609 posts | If a "team" wins games with the help of a relatively last-minute pickup are they really a team? And what would the "team" have really accomplished? |
Sept. 21, 2012 5ToolsinOhio Men's 50 160 posts | Showing your Sunday morning league roots there Repeat19...Teams have been adding a player or two for weekend tournaments for sometime now! Make that doctors appointment will ya? |
Sept. 21, 2012 Gary19 Men's 50 2609 posts | You are comparing the "World Masters" (whatever that means) to weekend tournaments? |
Sept. 21, 2012 5ToolsinOhio Men's 50 160 posts | No i am replying to your "team" and what was really accomplished by a pick up...when pick ups for ANY tournament is pretty common, tell me Holy Name never picked up a player for a special tournament? |
Sept. 21, 2012 Gary19 Men's 50 2609 posts | So now we are discussing World Masters, weekend tournaments, and "special tournaments"? The best I can remember, this was almost 30 years ago, we only brought guys who were rostered. Now I know Bill had rostered guys who did not come every weekend, and were never there during the week, but the only guys I can remember who ever came occasionally to tournaments were guys he had back in the 70s who did not want to play a full tournament schedule but would come on occasion. But I do believe they were rostered. I really don't recall some random guy, as these guys on the internet now trolling for teams would be, showing up. Even when we went to the Gateway Classic or the USSSA "A" Nationals it was with our core team. I can't say every local team back then did things that way, but Bill was a really moral guy on how he handled his team and players. |
Sept. 21, 2012 LadyMachinist Women's 40 13 posts | There are 447 teams going to Vegas. Only 38 of those are women. So if they could not "pick up" another player or two how many teams do you suppose could participate? Why do you guys argue what the men do and should not do in the "womens softball" topic. |
