We, Allstate/Miken won the 55+ Major Plus in St. Louis, defeating Mission 2 out of three games. We were the only two in the division.

In 50+ Major Plus there was Ploog, Pine Knob and Randy Smith. I don't know who won or how they placed.

The fields were 310 and Friday and Saturday we played on the side with the wind blowing in. Bruce Meade hit the only hr in any of our 5 games. Sunday morning the wind was cross/blowing out to right and still no hrs.

Rabbit; I agree about the Metro- Coor Lite. They have won just as many championships as other's. I am trying to figure out the rhyme or reason on how the Big Three do their decisions. The Metro team has a good bunch of players and I really don't care about if they move up or not....I just want to know how and when the decisions are made to do so. I had a talk with one of the Big Three and they said that a team could move up anytime. I did not think that was fair also, as some tourns. as the SPA, play the Major/Major + on a different month. Or how about if a player plays on two teams - qualifies on one at AAA and his other team wins a World. Now you already have him as a AAA and he and the team move to Major. What happens then to the player and both of his teams??? My solution: a player can only play on one team per age group. No releases, no nothing until the following year; unless his team folds. THis would cut down on the egoes and big heads after they get an MVP award and they either have to stick with the team or end their season to the following year...

65 Super Major...California Blue Jays
60 Super Major...California Old A's
55 Super Major...GSF
50 Super Major...Kelly Sports

The Animals won 55's.
Major, I believe.

We at Kelly's had a great tournament and a great time.
All of the teams, Thunder, GSF, Old A's and Oregon Masters provided terrific competiton.
The tournament was well run yet I regret
someone made a mistake and allowed us
to play on an off field rather than field 1
which had 3 cameras broadcasting live and to tapes
that could be purchased afterword of the entire game.

Thanks to USSSA and the Salem people for a fine tournament, to all our competitors and fans
for a memorable and meaningful experience
and to Mike Kelly and his wife Leanore
for all their support and enthusiasm.

2 down and 2 to go.

Teeters won the 60AAA at St Louis. I have a cap (too small), a watch (too big), and a patch (misplaced) to prove it, but there's a story behind it.

There were only six 60+ teams in the tourney. Two Major+, three Major, and one AAA (Teeters). So we won the AAA, even though we won only one round robin game and nothing in the double elimination.

They had a nice facility and the games were well run. However, a tourney director should have an obligation to call a team in our situation a let them know the circumstances before they spend the time and money to travel for a tournament like this.

I believe Theraldson's won the 60 Major +. The Texas Legends and KC Fire were going to play for the 60 Major championship unless Minnesota Supreme made a huge comeback against KC in the losers' bracket.

hi rabbit,
thanks for the kind words. the reason metro /coors light is AAA is because we haven't won a big tourney until Champaign, and now st louis. we are leaving wednesday for plano, but we arent going to cancel just because we won. we usually only play one national tournament because most of our players are still working and cant get time off. our best finish before this year was 3rd in 2002 in phoenix, so why would we have moved up? i am sure we will be moved up next year, but then who do we play in the midwest? you know we all see each other at every tournament, same teams over and over. good luck to you in plano. Jim McCart

ps: i met Bruce Meade in St louis and what a class guy he is. he is a great ambassador for senior softball.

Hey Rabbit just wanted to wish you luck this weekend in Plano. Wish we could play there instead of St Louis. We got killed. We had to play Ploog and Pine Knob in the round robin and the rest of the major teams were very good. We didn't know the UII was going to be legal or we would not have gone. They never advertised it was going to be legal and it is not legal in regular ISA. I guess teams cried too much. The balls were terrible. There were only two home runs hit against us in five games. The UII is ruining th game. The tournament directors are going to continue to use socks for balls to compensate. This was our last tournament in the 50 group we are splitting and will have a 50 and 55 hopefully. By the way the Travelodge team beat Pine Knob and Randy Smith in pool play batting 14 players each game.

I disagree with your JTS2. We played 55 Major Plus and only one ball was hit out in the 5 games we played. Bruce Meade hit that one. We were even run ruled by a AAA team from Ill. I think they only hit 2 balls over our outfielders heads.

Maybe you should complain to your manager about not knowing the U2 would be used. Our coach emailed ISA and got the bat list from them.

I do wish they would announce the number of teams in the brackets in the future.

Good luck to everyone going to Plano.

We did not participate in St. Louis, but when I was checking on tournaments, I asked the tournament director about the UII among other things. I was told that it was legal. We have played several FHC tournaments which use ISA umpires. The teams sanction ISA because of their rules. The senior exceptions in ISA include bats and no stealing is what I have always been told when we played in Florida. When you talk with national offices, never make assumptions that they know that you are on a senior team because it is just a specialty in a major association. They probably just sent you the regular bat list because that is what they send almost everyone else. One of the wives called SSWC and did not specify that it was a men's team and was given dates for the women's. Needless to say that the plane tickets purchased were for the wrong days. So ask lots of questions and never assume.

We have not had the pleasure of playing Metro Coors Light in a few years; hopefully they will catch up with us again some day.

We were at a national tournament where a team in our bracket was moved up after pool play because they were determined to be too strong but kept in with us in the tournament with an equalizer. I guess that it can happen at any time, but I just had never seen it happen before. I did not think that they were that much stronger than any of us, but we still took the equalizer, maybe a little unsportsmanlike.

Hey TexasTransplant, congrats on your win. Now a days you need a court order to verify that there will be other teams in your bracket that are rated the same. Seems this year is really bad with that. Am curious why so many in our bracket are not showing up? When we played you in Plano is the last time we have seen teams in same age bracket and there were more then 2 of us. Next year we will really look into what touranments we play to meet teams of equal ratings. I ran a local tournament in Houston this past weekend and played stronger teams. Don't have to travel and spend a lot of money to do that. We would like teams equal in ratings. See you in Plano soon and be kind, we are old and senile. Good luck

Donnie (Turn Two),
GSF was the only 55 major + team in Salem. It would be nice if this type of issue could be circumvented in the future. This message board is an ideal venue for stating whether or not your team (global 'you', not just Turn Two) will be going to an event. As a sponsor, the USSSA event was primarily a waste of $10k.
Their system of allowing state directors to sit on $ and entry forms prevents us from knowing who will actually attend. As it stands now, GSF will not commit to another USSSA event... for this reason and others.
It sounds as though St. Louis was no box of choclates either... only 2 major + teams...but 2 is better than 1.
With all of this mind, which 55 major + teams are definitely planning to be in Seattle (Sept 7-10)? It is our understanding that TT will not be there. Anyone else out there know whether their 55 major + team will be in Seattle?

From the schedule that I have Allstate/Miken won't be in Seattle. We will be in Burlington for the ASA and Vegas for the LVSSA.

congrats bruce,i don't remember if we ever got you out,he also flashed a little glove there at first.
it was something to see a ball getting mashed and not going any where.the ball bruce meade hit out just cleared the fence in center(i was there when it went out),ok the fences were 310 but we should of had better balls to play with.the problem was that they left them in the heat all day long.they were just ok friday morning when we started(must of been i was able to get one out).in all our games i think there was 5 balls total hit out(between both teams)
mission's schedule is to make ssusa(seattle),and i think we are coming to vegas also.

TT, if you are talking about the band on the watch, it can be adjusted. I agree about the hats. I guess they think as we get older our heads shrink. :)

Bruce & Modo

I'm pretty sure I can take a link out of the watch band. I just haven't tried, yet. I shouldn't have even said anything about it.

I haven't been able to buy a hat since I was 5 years old. I don't know if its brains or just a thick skull. I've been trying to find a hat to match my team's on the internet.

Modo, I will send an e-mail. I would like to replace the patch. I think I left in in the concession area Saturday.

Bruce, congrats on your MVP.

I didn't take a link out. You need to release the pin on the clasp and adjust it that way.

Ok I didn't see how I could do it otherwise and still be able to keep the info easy to access so I took the liberty of starting to post the teams who SAID they are going to the tournaments at the following FSSA link:

http://p066.ezboard.com/ffloridahalfcenturysoftballmessageboardfrm18

If you goto the site and will add a reply under the tournament that you plan on attending and the division you plan on playing then I'll update the master list there so everyone can see who plans on going. I hope that works well for you and if not I'm sure I'll read about..... haha
