Dec. 1, 2012 Rino 20 posts | Safe Senior Softball So many posts about the lack of safety in Senior softball. I was thinking of trying an experiment with a pick-up game using wooden bats on a little league field. There should be just as many homers on the 200 ft. field but the speed of the ball in play will be greatly reduced and the outfielders would have less ground to cover. The only drawback is finding a field with no pitcher's mound. This might be a nice diversion from the current game. OK, hit me with your best shot. Rick |

Dec. 2, 2012 Rino 20 posts | 200' may be short, but do most seniors hit a far as they did 30-40 years ago with wood bats? I played 265' fields, modified fast pitch and there were homers, but the ball was harder and the bodies were harder., except for mad dog's wood. 220' or 230' might be the correct distance for seniors. I probably thought of this due to taking a 100 mph line drive off my ankle while running at 3rd base. And it wasn't even a senior bat. |
