2016 CRABTOWN CLASSIC

GLEN BURNIE, MD – The 2016 Crabtown Classic was held at Bachman Sports Complex June 1-5.
In the four-team 40/50 Gold division, Superior 40/Potomac came back to double-dip top seed Mid-Atlantic Elite 40’s, 21-20 and 12-16, in the championship and “if” games, respectively. Mid-Atlantic edged out Superior earlier the bracket, 13-12, to knock Superior into the elimination bracket. Team Elite/Miken finished in third place to round out the top three finishers.
The largest division of the tournament, the 11-team 50 AAA division, saw no. 3 seed TNT Sports Club finish off a perfect weekend, going 2-0 in seeding play and 4-0 in bracket play, defeating Maryland Cougars, No Clue/Maryland 50+, Premier Softball 50’s and the Cougars for a second time, in the championship game, 17-12. After being knocked down into the elimination bracket by TNT, the Cougars won four straight to reach the championship game and set up a rematch. After going 0-2 in seeding play, Premier Softball put forth a solid performance in bracket play, winning its first three games to eventually finish in third place.
The 55 Gold division was split between Major and AAA. High Street Bucs 55 took the Major division, defeating Sweet Construction 55, 25-24 and 23-22, in a pair of one-run thrillers in the championship and “if” games, respectively. Sweet Construction had defeated High Street Bucs earlier in the bracket, 19-5. In the AAA division, Beltway Bandits defeated Harford County in a best two-out-of-three game series. Harford took game one, 13-12, while the Bandits came back to win back-to-back games, 20-18 and 16-12, in the championship and “if” games.
After going 0-2 in seeding play in the 60 Gold division, Northern Virginia Force 60 bounced back in bracket play, going 3-0 with wins over Pill & Pill and High Street Bucs 60 twice, including a 15-14 win in the championship game. Pill & Pill finished third.
In the 65 AAA division, top seed Hamel Builders was upset in its first game, 16-10, against Spicer Properties 65, dropping the team down into the elimination bracket. With their backs against the wall, Hamel Builders rattled off five straight wins, including two over Spicer Properties, 10-6 and 13-11 in the championship and “if” games, respectively. Syracuse Cyclones 65 finished in third place.
