GIT-R-DONE SOFTBALL BANQUET: 10 YEARS TOGETHER (2006 - 2016)

Oct. 1, 2016

Git-R-Done Softball recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills, Calif.  More than 80 players, former players, fans, friends and families were in attendance sharing in this special Git-R-Done event, reminiscing about games, comradeship, successes and challenges.

Commissioner Tommy DeRocher, General Manager Martha DeRocher and Co-Commissioner Gene Dick, as well as managers Ron Martel and Jerry McGee all gave speeches, along with former managers Bill Wilkins and Gabe Salas who were also on hand to speak. Guest speaker Don Reddig, SSUSA national director, represented SSUSA giving a perspective on the organization and Senior Softball in general.  Reddig has a special connection with Git-R-Done, helping to start the organization.

Special guest Roger Owens was also on hand. He is known in Southern California as “Roger, The Peanut Man” for his unique talent in tossing peanuts from great distances behind his back, which he has done since 1958 for crowds at Dodgers, Rams and USC games, as well as other venues across the country and globally.

A slide show compiled by Ron Martel presented an historical overview of Git-R-Done Softball through the years. The show featured pictures of players from all six of Git-R-Done Softball teams in action as well as in the dugout. The show also captured memorable moments of the players with friends and family on the sidelines and at team dinners.

The banquet wrapped-up with dancing to the music of “Band of Friends". The band is comprised of Git-R-Done players past and present, along with the sister of one of the band members - Tommy, Ronnie, Tim Wilson, Dan Krepich, Rob Martin and Jody Henderson.

“Git-R-Done Softball would like to acknowledge our relationship with SSUSA, a class organization that has provided venues for us ballplayers to play the game we love,” said Tommy DeRocher.  “We have been fortunate to win several championships through the years; however, we are most proud of the 2015 Steve Simmons Memorial Sportsmanship Award.  This was the only award that we displayed during our banquet.  This award will always remind us what we, and our games are truly about: ‘A Game’ to share, to enjoy, to compete, and to practice good sportsmanship. The competition that SSUSA has been instrumental in bringing together is unsurpassed.  SSUSA’s ability to organize the tournaments is outstanding.  We on Git-R-Done Softball are grateful for your efforts; without which there would be no Git-R-Done Softball.”
