OBITUARIES - 5/31/17
May 1, 2017
George Govea, 51, from Austin, Tex. died on April 8.
Playing in his rookie season with Senior Softball-USA in 2016, George was a member of Escobar Body Shop (Men’s 50). He played in four tournaments with the team, including the Texas State Championships, the Aggieland Classic, the Labor Day Classic and the LVSSA/SSUSA World Masters Championships. He also played in the Labor Day Classic with Romo Trouble (Men’s 40).
George and Escobar Body Shop had an impressive first season in SSUSA, winning both the Texas State and World Masters Championships. For his efforts, George was named to Escobar Body Shop’s All-Tournament Team for both tournaments.
“George was an astounding player, but he was a better person, friend and teammate,” said Danny Escobar, manager of Escobar Body Shop. “Between the lines he was a fierce competitor, but outside the lines he was one of the kindest people you will ever find. He was always laughing and joking with everyone, including the teams we would play against. You are gone my friend, but not forgotten.”
Terry Truesdale, 68, from Lincoln, Calif. died on April 26.
A member of Senior Softball-USA since the early 2000’s, Terry most recently played with Lincoln Hills Coyote 65, primarily participating in the Rock ‘N Reno Challenge Cup. Through the years, Terry has also played with the Sacramento Saints, NOR-CAL STIXX 60, Mustangs, The Farm and California Starzzz, among others.
“Terry was one of the most competitive and well liked players on our Lincoln Hills team,” said Montie Boatwright, manager of Lincoln Hills Coyote. “Not only did we lose a great player, we also lost a great man. Our team, as well as Shelley (wife), thank everyone for their support.”
