Third Annual Southern California State Championships Draws 78 Teams

RIVERSIDE – The 2017 Southern California State Championships was held here July 7-12 at Big League Dreams Mira Loma and Chino Hills.

"The tournament went off without a hitch," said Don Reddig, SSUSA National Director. "The teams had a great time at both BLD parks and we recieved a number of compliments on the umpires."

The tournament began with the Men’s 50 through 60 age divisions on July 7.

In the three-team Men’s 50 Major division, ShowTime So Cal defeated Kamikaze (CA) 14-9 in the championship game.  Arizona Old School finished in third place.

Pacific Coast Alliance (CA) posted a perfect record in the seven-team Men’s 50 AAA division, going 2-0 in seeding play, before going 3-0 in in bracket play, including a 21-15 win over No Excuses (CA) in the championship game. No Excuses made an incredible run through the elimination side of the bracket, winning four straight games to reach the championship game. Vegas Warriors (NV) finished in third place.

In the seven-team Men’s 55 Major division, The Core (NV) posted a perfect 4-0 record in bracket play, including a 25-11 win over Southern California Braves in the championship game. AZ Legends finished in third place.

Top Gun Hornets (CA) posted an unblemished record in the four-team Men’s 55 Silver division, going 3-0 in seeding play, before finishing bracket play with a 14-6 win over Kamikaze 55 (CA) in the championship game. Lights Out (CA) finished in third place.

In the six-team Men’s 60 Major division, Top Gun Elite (CA) bounced back from an 0-2 showing in seeding play by rattling off four straights wins in bracket play, including a 22-16 victory over Reloaded (CA) in the championship game. Sin City Softball (NV) finished in third place.

Playing a best two-out-of-three game series to determine the champion in the Men’s 60 AAA division, Kamikaze (CA) swept Base Hawgs (CA) by scores of 16-3 and 13-12.

So-Cal Titans won the three-team Men’s 60 AA division, defeating 911 Softball Club (CA) 15-11 in the championship game. Lights Out – 60 (CA) finished third.

The Men’s and Women’s 40 Masters divisions were held July 8-9.

TKP/Hunters (CA) posted a perfect weekend to wrap up the Women’s 40 Masters Major division, while Hafta Play (CA) and SoCal Toxic (CA) finished in second and third place, respectively.

Straight Pride (CA) swept Misfits (CA) in the best two-out-of-three game series by scores of 18-15 and 21-17 to win the Women’s 40 Masters AAA division.

Fattboyz Dickies (CA) went undefeated in the eight-team Men’s 40 Masters Major Plus division, going 2-0 in seeding play to secure the top seed, and 4-0 in bracket play, including a 24-23 victory over Prestige/Elite Sports Orange County (CA) in the championship game. Nicon Trucking (CA) finished in third place.

Pony Tail Express (CA) also went undefeated to win the 10-team Men’s 40 Masters Major division. Team Flexx (CA) finished in second place, while Aces (AZ) finished in third.

The Men’s 65 and over divisions were the next group, beginning play July 10.

After dropping the championship game in the three-team Men’s 65 Major division against D & K Softball (CA), 15-6, Top Gun 65 Mavericks (CA) bounced back with a 10-8 victory in the “if” game. Over The Edge (CA) finished in third place.

Following their loss in their opening game in bracket play against Las Vegas Stars (NV), 16-13, top seed No Guts, No Glory (CA) ran the gauntlet, winning four straight games, including double-dipping previously unbeaten OC Mustangs (CA) in the championship (16-10) and “if” game (25-16) to win the five team Men’s 65 AAA division. The Las Vegas Stars finished in third place.

In the Men’s 65 AA division, Git-R-Done 65 (CA) swept Franklin Loan Center (CA) in a best two-out-of-three game series by scores of 20-16 and 21-15.

The Men’s 70 Major division saw Sons of Pitches (CA) defeat Tharaldson’s (NV) 16-3 in the championship game. Top Gun 70 (CA) finished in third place.

Git-R-Done 70 (CA) won the Men’s 70 Silver division, downing Doughboys (NV) 20-6 in the championship game. Southern California Crush finished in third place.

Fairway Ford (CA) took the Men’s 75/80 Gold division, with California Connection and Git-R-Done 75 finishing second and third, respectively.

Git-R-Done 80 (CA) completed a strong showing for the Git-R-Done organization as the third Git-R-Done team to win a championship, sweeping Davis & Associates (CA) in a best two-out-of-three game series in the Men’s 80 AAA division, by scores of 14-13 and 19-5.
