San Antonio Senior Softball League (SASSL) Holds 32nd Anniversary Awards Banquet

Jan. 1, 2019

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. – The San Antonio Senior Softball League (SASSL) held its 32nd Anniversary Awards Banquet on Jan. 12 at Morgan’s Wonderland Event Center.

In an unusual joint appearance, Ridge Hooks, the head of Softball Players Association (SPA) and Terry Hennessy, the head of Senior Softball-USA (SSUSA), both appeared at the SASSL Anniversary Awards. “Ridge and I have been good friends for many years and we don’t have a chance to get together often, so this was a real treat to see him and Ann – and attend this wonderful event,” said Hennessy.

Founded in 1987 by Bill Altman, SASSL has grown to 42 league teams in seven different age brackets, becoming one of the largest senior leagues in the nation. Fueled by its motto: "no player left behind", SASSL currently has over 1,000 males and females registered, ranging in age from 40-87.

San Antonio area teams annually do quite well in national tournaments, as shown by Team Texas (SA) winning the 17-team Men’s 60 AA Division at the 2018 LVSSA/SSUSA World Masters Championships.
