Eighty Teams Compete at Top Gun Winter Classic - Bullhead City/Laughlin Senior Games

Bullhead City, AZ - The 2020 edition of the Top Gun Winter Classic - Bullhead City/Laughlin Senior Games held here at Bullhead City Rotary Park, January 14-19, featured 80 teams looking to start off the year on the right foot.

The tournament opened with the Men’s 65-80 divisions, playing Jan. 14-16.

In the three-team Men’s 65 Major Division, top seed Rezults Realty (NV) capped off a perfect week, going 2-0 in seeding and 2-0 in bracket play, including a 22-20 win over Ryan’s Way (NV) in the championship game. SilverBacks (NV) finished in third place.

The seven-team Men’s 65 Silver Division (AAA/AA) also saw a team run the table unblemished, as Sidewinders (AZ) went 2-0 in seeding and 3-0 in bracket play, including a 25-9 win over Utah Coyotes in the championship game.

Bouncing back from an 0-2 showing in seeding play, Utah Coyotes posted a 3-2 record in bracket play en route to their runner-up finish.

Bucky’s Casino (AZ) finished in third place.

In the six-team Men’s 70/75 Platinum Division (Major/Major Plus), Sidewinders 70 (AZ) joined their younger brothers in the winner’s circle, also finishing the tournament unscathed, going 2-0 in seeding and 3-0 in bracket play, including a thrilling 15-14 win over Animals 70 (CA) in the championship game.

Sidewinders 75 (AZ) finished in third place, giving the club two of the top three finishers in the division. The team entered bracket play as the No. 2 seed after going 2-0 in seeding, but went 2-2 in bracket play to round out their third-place finish.

In another six-team division, the Men’s 70 Silver Division (AAA/AA), Rocky Mountain Patriots (CO) rolled through bracket play with a perfect 4-0 record, including a 17-9 win over top seed So Cal Warriors (CA) in the championship game.

Top Gun Patriots (CA) finished in third place.

The Men’s 75/80 Platinum Division (Major/Major Plus) featured a best two-out-of-three game series between Las Vegas Coyotes 75 (NV) and Top Gun Gold 80 (CA).

The Las Vegas Coyotes struck first with a 23-18 win in game one, while Top Gun Gold bounced back with a thrilling 10-9 win in game two to even the series.

With no “if” game played, the teams tied for first place.

The Men’s 80 AAA Division also featured a best of three series, as Magic Stuff (UT) and Top Gun Diamond (CA) went head-to-head.

Top Gun Diamond swept the series, via wins of 12-11 and 21-11.

In the five-team Men’s 75/80 Gold Division (AAA/Major), teams played a full four-game round robin to determine the champion.

With a perfect 4-0 record, Git-R-Done 75 (CA) took the top spot.

Two teams tied with identical records, as J Squared 75 (CA) and Scrap Iron Gray Berets 80 (CO) each went 2-2.

Owning the head-to-head tiebreaker via a thrilling score of 25-24, Scrap Iron Gray Berets took the runner-up finish, while J Squared finished in third place.

Arizona Outlaws 75, 1-3, and Triple Play 75 (CA), 0-4, rounded out the five-team division.

The tournament continued Jan. 17-19 with the Men’s 50-60 divisions taking the field.

Beginning with the four-team Men’s 50 Major Division, Bart’s Fossils (CA) completed an undefeated weekend, going 2-0 in seeding play and 3-0 in bracket play, including a 34-33 nail-biter in the championship game over Stadium (CA).

After going 0-2 in seeding and dropping their opening bracket game, Stadium rebounded with back-to-back wins in the elimination bracket to eventually post a runner-up finish.

Top Gun Diamonds (CA) finished in third place.

In the nine-team Men’s 50/55 Gold Division (AAA/Major), 805’s PE Class 50 (CA) ran the gauntlet on championship Sunday with five straight wins to take the division.

805’s PE Class entered bracket play as the No. 4 seed after going 1-1 in seeding play.

The team won its opening bracket game 18-13 over The Program (CA), before falling to top seed Sin City Warriors 23-22, dropping the team into the elimination side of the bracket.

Needing to win out, 805’s PE Class did just that, rattling off five wins in a row, including double-dipping Sin City Warriors by scores of 24-18 and 24-19, in the championship and “if” games, respectively.

Advil Knights (CA) finished in third place.

In the three-team Men’s 55/60 Gold Division (AAA/Major), Vegas Elite 60 (NV) went 3-0 in the bracket, including a convincing win over top seed Graywolves 55 (NM), 20-9, in the championship game.

Unpredictable 55 (NM) finished third.

In the 11-team Men’s 55/60 Silver Division (AA/AAA), the largest division of the tournament, Sidewinders 60 (AZ) polished off an unbeaten weekend, going 2-0 in seeding play and 4-0 in bracket play, including a 24-7 win over 3rd Generation 60 (ND) in the championship game.

The win for Sidewinders 60 gave the Sidewinders Club another solid overall showing, with three first place finishes and a third-place finish.

Top seed Baker Boyz 60 (CA) finished in third place.

Los Vatos Viejos 60 II (AZ) made a valiant run through the elimination side of the bracket with three straight wins, before falling short in the fourth-place game against Baker Boyz, 17-7.

In the Men’s 60 AA Division, Boys of Summerlin (NV) and Lights Out (CA) went head-to-head in a best of three series.

The series would go the distance, as Boys of Summerlin took the opening game 25-12, while Lights Out evened the series with a game two win, 26-18.

In the rubber-match, Lights Out completed the comeback with a 20-13 win.

The Women’s 40-50 divisions and the Men’s 40 divisions were held over two days, Jan. 18-19.

In the four-team Women’s 40 AAA Division, top seed Vintage Vegas (NV) came back to avenge its 23-20 loss in the championship game against Unfinished Business (AZ), with a 24-10 victory in the “if” game.

S.O.AZ finished in third place.

In the Women’s 50 AAA Division, Just Us Ladies (NM) swept DeMarini/Blue Mountain Warrior Sistas (WA) by scores of 30-12 and 25-6, respectively, in a best of three game series.

In the 10-team Men’s 40 Major Division, four teams entered bracket play undefeated, with the top seed going to Avalon Meat Candy (NV).

Avalon Meat Candy continued its winning ways in bracket play, going 4-0 to cap off the perfect weekend, including a 23-11 win over Boomtown (NV) in the championship game.

Boomtown, who also entered bracket play with a 2-0 record in seeding play, reached the championship game the hard way, winning three straight games to come out of the elimination side of the bracket.

No. 2 seed Flawless/Worksteer/Loaded Sports (CA) finished in third place.

The four-team Men’s 40 AAA Division would come down to the “if” game, as top seed Joker’s Wild (AZ) won four straight games, including double-dipping Los Viejos (AZ) in the championship game (40-26) and “if” game (27-25).

Whatever (AZ) finished in third place.
