Inaugural Oktoberfest Classic Recap
Nov. 1, 2020
POLK COUNTY, Fla. – The inaugural Oktoberfest Classic was held here at Walker Road Softball Complex in Lakeland, Oct. 24-25.
Seven teams competed in two divisions.
In the four-team Men’s 50 AAA Division, Central Florida Vipers posted a perfect 3-0 record in bracket play, including an 18-11 win over top seed Volusia Top Gun (FL) in the championship game.
Silver Rays (FL) finished in third place, while Misfit Militia (FL) rounded out the division.
The three-team Men’s 55/60 Gold Division saw top seed Via Citrus/Team Florida 60 go 5-0 on the weekend, capped off by a thrilling 14-13 win over The Winter Haven All-Stars 55 (FL) in the championship game.
RedHawk Nation 60 (FL) finished in third place.
With their wins, Central Florida Vipers and Via Citrus/Team Florida secured their berths to the Original Tournament of Champions (TOC) in January.
Because of the loss of so many TOC qualifiers this season due to the pandemic, winners of all SSUSA qualifiers in 2020, and well as winners of 2019 TOC qualifiers, will be invited to the 2021 Tournament of Champions.
