Las Vegas Winter Worlds

March 1, 2006 – Senior Softball-USA

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – The Las Vegas Winter Worlds is booming in one of the hottest action-packed towns in the world.

Last year, the Las Vegas Winter Worlds attracted 84 teams from 37 states that competed in 19 divisions. Teams came from as far away as Florida and Canada – and Senior Softball-USA expects even more teams in 2006.

'We increased more than 25 percent from last year, and we expect another big increase again in 2006 for the Fourth Annual Las Vegas Winter Worlds,î said Fran Dowell, SSUSA National Tournament Director.

She reported that more than 100 teams are expected to play in this year's tournament in Las Vegas, which is always a favorite destination for senior softball players.

Almost any time of year is a great time to visit this gambling mecca in the desert, but November can be especially nice. In 2005, temperatures were perfect for playing softball – in the mid-70s.

Teams will play on some of the best fields that the area has to offer for this fourth annual ring tournament sponsored by Las Vegas Events.

Miken Sports and Senior Softball-USA will be providing a great awards package for this tournament, including exciting new Miken equipment.

And, perhaps most important, this is a ring tournament. Each winning player will have the opportunity to get a Championship Ring designed by Josten's.

In addition, teams will have a chance to use their 2007 rosters AND this tournament will count as a qualifier for the 2007 Senior Softball World Championships.

Off the field, teams can expect to find more fun things to do than in any other city in the world.

Las Vegas is really a city of two stories.

One, of course, is that of the dazzling lights and glittering resorts where tourists wager millions of dollars every year.

The other is the often untold story of a southwestern metropolitan area that is home to 1.4 million people – a place with schools, parks, grocery stores, and quiet neighborhoods populated by people from every state in the union.

Las Vegas, Spanish for 'the meadows,î was founded by Mormon missionaries. These early settlers were followed by westward-traveling pioneers and, later, by the men who built Hoover Dam, the area's first big tourist attraction.

The legalization of gambling in the 1930s transformed the city into an American Xanadu, where a street lined with stately pleasure domes tempts travelers searching for excitement, cuisine, entertainment and shopping.

This is a city unlike any other in the world. If you're looking for fun and adventure, this is the place to be. You can ride to the top of the Eiffel Tower, glide along Venetian canals and watch pirate ships battle for supremacy on the High Seas. And you can do it all without leaving Las Vegas Boulevard – or The Strip as most people call it.

Las Vegas offers some of the world's finest dining choices, indoor and outdoor recreation, non-stop gambling and first-rate shows befitting the name, 'entertainment capital of the world.î

Visitors love to enjoy luxurious hotels, unique shopping experiences, dazzling and unusual stage shows, first rate restaurants, and world class gaming.

Of course, Las Vegas is also a golfer's paradise, with plenty of† championship golf courses.

Away from the man-made excitement is a world of natural beauty unlike any other place on earth. Red Rock Canyon's unique rock formations are perfect for both the photographer and the rock climbing enthusiast. Lake Mead is perfect if you're into water sports. The Grand Canyon, Valley of Fire, and Death Valley are all short hops from the Strip.
