STORM SLAMS FIRST TOP GUN CHAMPIONSHIPS

June 1, 2011 – Senior Softball-USA

SAN DIEGO – Unusual early season storms slammed the First Top Gun Southern California Championships here in late February, washing out the 40 Masters and shortening the weekend play for some divisions.

However, the older divisions that played during the week missed the storm and played all the scheduled games.

The joint SSUSA-Top Gun event is the only Southern California tournament in which winners are invited to the 2012 SSUSA Tournament of Champions in Florida. Only winners of the top 20 SSUSA Championships throughout North America are invited to the TOC.

One of the host Top Gun teams – Top Gun Silver 65s – played perfectly, winning all three seeding games and both bracket games. Top Gun Silver defeated Paul Tone Agency of Arizona 16-15 in the finals to clinch the championship.

In another perfect performance, Last Call of California beat Top Gun 70s 16-11 to take the 70 Division championships.

In the rain-shortened tournament on the weekend, Westcoast 50s of California won the 50 Platinum division and South Bay 50s took the 50 AAA.

In the 55 Major-Plus, the Nighthawks prevailed over Doubleplay Classic and in the 55 Majors, So Cal 55s beat Top Gun 55s.

The California Coasters won a combined 50/55/60 Silver Division.
