SYRACUSE HALL OF FAMER VERNON DIES AT 76

Oct. 1, 2011 – Senior Softball-USA

Syracuse Sports Hall of Famer Carl M. Vernon, 76, died on September 1. Vernon started his softball career at 21 and played for more than 55 years.

He sponsored and played on Vernon Construction that won the New York State Championships in 1980. The team represented the state in the National Tournament in Maine that same year.

Vernon was a member of the 2008 Senior Softball World Series Championship team, Syracuse Cyclones 70s.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Over his lifetime, he attended countless band concerts, parades and high school and college sporting events in support of his family.

Vernon died of cancer. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Florence; his daughters Annette and husband Joe Rossi of Waverly; his granddaughters Rachel and Paula Rossi; step grandchildren Stephanie and Max Reinhardt.
