40 MASTERS TEAMS ARE FUTURE FOR WOMEN
Oct. 1, 2011 – Connie Stewart
Four years ago, SSUSA decided to introduce the 40 Masters Division. This brought an entirely new component to the Women’s Program and incredible growth. This growth was not only attributed to the 40 Masters Division but also to our Senior divisions getting larger. We now continue to see an even stronger growth in the Women’s divisions. This growth will continue throughout the program for years to come. There was a lot of skepticism and criticism about the younger teams being added but what most people did not seem to realize is that these ladies are our future seniors. Without these teams and players to add to the program, our women’s program would not be as strong as it is today.
With the Phoenix World Championships right around the corner this growth has exploded! Our Masters division will welcome more than 24 teams alone. Along with participation in the senior division teams, ages 50 – 70, the World Championships will be competitive.
The Women’s Masters division is now rated, the same as the men’s divisions. We will have teams in the Major, AAA and AA divisions participating. Teams will be coming from Alaska, Maryland, Missouri, Virginia, Texas, California and Arizona to name just a few states. All divisions are equal in strength and anxiously anticipating a very competitive tournament.
This year we will also welcome the participation of three teams in the 65 and 70 divisions. These teams will be on their last leg of a busy week starting with the Huntsman Senior Games. These ladies are amazing with their strong attitudes and high endurance.
We are very excited to see our future seniors and all our loyal senior players in Phoenix.
As the Women’s Director, I will continue to strive to recruit more women’s teams and be the eyes and ears of the players.
Connie Stewart is the SSUSA National Women’s Director.
