Fall Color Welcomes Northeast to Syracuse

Dec. 1, 2012 – Ross McCulligan

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Northeast Championships relocated to the Hopkins Road Softball Complex here in September and the beautiful fall scenery provided an excellent backdrop for some great, competitive softball.

Twenty-eight teams from seven states participated in the tournament. Seeding games on Saturday of Session 2 were called due to inclement weather but teams were able to squeeze in bracket play on Sunday.

National Director Cal Allison had the challenging task of ensuring that the tournament was played to completion. All division winners earned a spot in the Tournament of Champions in February 2013.

Jeff Mickle and Syracuse Events teamed up with Allison, National Director Michael Boone and New York Director Chuck Sharkey to bring the sixth annual Northeast Championships to Syracuse ion excellent fashion.

The Men’s 50 Major division was won by the Northeast Storm which defeated the Combat Bandits, 24-17 in the championship game.

The 50 AAA division was taken by Phoenix Tube, 21-17 over Custom Logo.

Omega QSE Construction claimed the 55 Major division beating Pace/Mendon Collision 23-20 in the championship game.

In the 55 AAA division Fat Nancy’s/Gubiotti defeated New York Motion in two straight games to claim the two-team division title.

The 55 AA division was won by Stefco Silver Stix, 22-10 over Roc City.

Syracuse Merchants ran away with the title 18-10 against Pace 60’s in the 60 Major division.

New York Capitals lost in a possible championship game, 20-18, against the Syracuse Cyclones but hung on in the “IF” game, 29-21, for the championship.
