Kaump, Hall of Fame Player, Umpire Dies

Bob Kaump, well known throughout Southern California as an elite player and an umpire, died on March 31 at age 75.

Kaump, currently on Fairway Ford 75, had been playing on Fairway Ford off and on since 2002. He has also played on Top Gun, Southern California Classics and Southern California Chiefs.

As a player, Kaump was a Gold Medalist in Senior Olympics in 1992 and ’93 and he was inducted into the National Senior Softball Hall of Fame in 1998.

As an umpire, Kaump was inducted into the Metro Detroit ASA Hall of Fame and into the prestigious National Indicator Fraternity.

He had been a middle school teacher in Mt. Pleasant, Mich., for 30 years, coaching girl’s softball, football and basketball.
