Discussion: Advice needed from teams in the South.

The park where I hold my first Saturday in March, warm up tourney, has come under new management. It may not be financially feasible for me to have it there next year. Still trying to work something out though.

Anyway, the advice I need concerns your interest and availability in a slightly different scenario. One park is in Fultondale, about 10 miles north of Birmingham. There are 3 hotels and 2 others being built within 5-7 minutes of the park for the few teams who always come in early.

There are only 2 fields, so here is my proposition. Format will be the same; just a 3 game guarantee. 70's and 65's would play on Friday; 60's would play on Saturday and 50's/55's on Sunday. I could have 8 total teams each day with two 4 team RR's. We would start at 10 a.m. and leave by 6 p.m. in order for everyone to get home at a reasonable hour.

Looking for some feedback; thanks, Steve

Discussion: Weird, but true; really!

I received a nerve block in my back Tuesday morning at 7, slept til 3, and have not been back to sleep since. Maybe that is the reason for Weird, but true.

I have another: In 1984, I received a nerve block for my back at Tulane Medical Center. The recovery room was full, so I was placed in a large room of pregnant women in various stages of labor. Must have been 50 of them!
I was pushed to the far corner away from everyone and curtains were pulled around. For the next hour, I was subjected to moaning, groaning, screaming, a lot of profanity, and one particular lady who was high as a kite. She repeatedly declared at the top of her voice--"All the pretty colors". You could have heard her a block away!
An hour later, a nurse came to check on me and I begged "You have to get me out of Here!". I was moved to the hallway for the duration of my stay.

Vietnam, 1970: our Firebase "Trooper" was 100 miles south of Cam Ranh Bay. the supply lines had been cut off for several weeks. As a result, we had not received potable water and I was down to my last canteen.
We had not showered for several weeks; while at lunch with our C rations, it began to rain! 4 or 5 of us had the same idea. We stripped to our underwear and lathered up, enjoying the shower. Just as we really got lathered up with that good Army soap, it quit raining!!
I used my last canteen to get most of it off; did not have a cool drink of water for over 2 days!
I am sure that others have a weird story or two to share.

Coop, my little, small potatoes, 1-day tourney in March, in Birmingham, is pretty much what you are contemplating. The only difference is that I go with established age brackets.
I think most have enjoyed and supported it, especially as a practice, warm-up in the pre-season.
Dream big, but start small; see how it develops!

Discussion: An Old, But Never Forgotten Memory

I was the armorer for C Troop, 2/1 Cav. Our firebase (Trooper) was 1 mile from Song Mao, 100 miles south of Cam Ranh Bay (spelling?). I arrived there in January, then the summer months were spent running road security for infantry into Cambodia, as far up as Pleiku. Last 2 months were in an artillery unit in Pleiku, after our colors were struck and the unit returned to the states.
What is your story Texas?

Vietnam, 47 years ago, on this day at 12:05 a.m. The first rocket hit a tree next to our shower. Shorty happened to be showering. Naked and covered in soap, Shorty made the 80 or so yards to his hooch in record time!
The second rocket blasted out the corner of our new mess hall and the ice machine which had just been installed. 30 minutes prior, I had been standing less than 3 feet from the ice machine, running a movie projector for the few of us who were not on guard duty.

Discussion: knee pain

For the past several years, I have been getting cortisone shots in my left knee. The next to the last time, I had a mild reaction and did not sleep for a day or so. 6 months later, I did not sleep for 3 days! So, no more for me. Please be careful.

Discussion: Birmingham Tourney this past weekend

I apologize; since it was a practice tourney, really did not keep records. But I think Masters Reloaded, Team Kitty, RPR and Montgomery Swarm were strong. Maybe others can give a more accurate accounting.

No games after RR. We have been doing this for a number of years and everyone just wants some practice in order to shake the rust off before the season starts.

RR, 4 teams, 3gg. 5 HR's, then walks. 1/1 count with extra foul.

It is just a practice tourney, 2 weeks prior to first "real" contest of the year. The most important rule I have for my team is "don't get hurt"!

Almost here!! Really looking forward to this tourney and the 2017 schedule. Long-range forecast has mid to high 60's all of that week.

Park and Rec started putting down new infield dirt last week.

Hope all of Senior Softball has a greatly blessed year--more hits, less errors, fewer "senior moments"!! Above all, treasure family, faith, and friends! God bless
