Aug. 13, 2012 rtaven	Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: women 50+ in waldorf,mn also no senior leagues in waldorf or laplata. have to go to montgomery county of fairfax. fairfax has very good day league,coed but woman play with men as equals. no set number of woman on each team. i made the drive for a lot of years,not to bad now that woodrow wison project almost comlete.

Aug. 2, 2012 rtaven	Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Throwing currntly in rehab for 6 months.not rotor cuff but certain weak or damaged muscles. i was not able to throw overhand for last 2 years without extreme pain. operated on and bone spur removed 6 months ago, did not fix. rehab used bands and light weights and got me where i could throw without pain but weakly. i now do rehab on own. i use bat warmer to warm arm before throwing our excercise and ice or winter crest after. long throw every other day and bands other days, 1 day off. i do 5 band exercises inludeing 1 called nolan ryan.also planks.i will hopefully be playing other positions when not pitching next week end.throws are getting stronger and stronger.
July 2, 2012 rtaven	Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: New Senior Baller this year! 50! have you talked to any of the teams in area? there are a lot of 50 travel teams in va and md. if you have no contacts go to issa senior softball site and look under team rateings.depends on your skill level. if your a top notch player ims dogs are always looking for players.
June 11, 2012 rtaven	Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: reumofan plus as reumofan plus seems to be giveing several of us great relief from artritic pain has anyone had any adverse effects they can point to reumofan . i know fda recall and have contacted my doctor. how long have you taken and effect? anyone have any update?

March 23, 2012 rtaven	Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Knee(s) Replacement i need my right knee done.lot of pain top of ankle and bottom half of calf. same as you all doctors can not say what it is. assume its from knee and pain and will go away after replacement. all players i have talked to highly recomend. will have mine done after fall season.
March 4, 2012 rtaven	Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Should you be able to go for hits between the second baseman and shortstop i see some talking about line drives back at pitcher,i think most pitchers would agree we are not worried about the line drives, we know where they are going,it's the ones that hit in front of you around the rubbers that i worry about as you are not sure where there going, especialy if they hit rubber. and yes i have bailed out when ball hits one of the pitching rubbers.
Feb. 7, 2012 rtaven	Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Social Security benefits if you are healthy and don,t need it wait till 70,you get about 8% increase a year. make sure you apply for medicare before 65. your insurance rates go way up when you hit 65. a and b with supplemental and meds. if your spouse draws social security the other can draw at spouces 1\2 rate with no penalty. there are lots of things you can do but can be unreversable. you can no longer pay back and start over.

Oct. 27, 2011 rtaven	Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Safety Questions i have been looking at rugby helments,maybe next year.i wear shin guards every now and then and then quit wearing them till i get hit and then regreat it.been lucky this year. but i have bailed out on 1 or 2 that hit rubber. same thing here on girls fast pitch,all players on field wearing helmets. if you pitch you have to do what makes you comfortable.
Oct. 10, 2011 rtaven	Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: courtesy runners i play open league during week and have to run for myself but there are only 2 games and i don't always back up or cover bases as i should.i can not beat normal runner to first. my doubles are limp to first and walk to second. my singles are trot first 20ft if thats what you want to call it and walk rest of way while watching outfielders for any sign they may throw to first. a lot of singles would be doubles and a lot of doubles triples or more for normal runner. i usualy hit in front of big time home run hitter which makes it nice.in critical situation i will be subsituted for and re-enter. tournament ball has a lot more games,i have pitched 5 games a day more times than i can remember and try to back up and cover.this is a lot more running than any one else.i don't know if i could play tournament ball with out cr. i have 2 major leg problems and would love to be able to run again.
Sept. 29, 2011 rtaven	Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: courtesy runners i always lead my team in doubles which would be a trple or home run to normal runners,i usualy walk in to second.i'm in pain and realy appreciate a runner.
July 26, 2011 rtaven	Topic: Website comments Discussion: hitting the middle i try to get people to hit middle in certain situations,easy inning ending double play. if you pitch you have to be ready at all times to catch ball or get out of way if you feel ball may seriously injure you.if some one says something hand them the ball and let them try it. i would quit pitching if net or out.
