Discussion: Softball and hot weather!!

DB14- Thanks for the response and I agree with you 100% that's what we are looking for is a fair ball that let's us play our normal game. It's really a win win for players and associations.
Look forward to seeing you in Vegas and don't be looking for any revenge. Timberworks is a great group of guys who play very competitive ball at a tough quality level and you guys hold your own!!!

Discussion: Softball and hot weather!!

First of all thank you Marvin for investigating this much appreciated and I believe you were speaking to one of the experts with softballs and a person who I trust personally.
I have always been a big fan of the Rock (mainly because of the heat issues and yes for performance capability), however after what I witnessed in the Vegas Spring Worlds it was definitely doing tricks.
I think Bob W. nailed it when he stated - "I like neither extreme... balls that are too lively and/or balls that are 'decompressed' in the heat." As I stated earlier I think the Stote ball is a very fair ball except when it gets over 85 degrees. Hopefully we can find a ball that falls in the same performance capabilities including when it gets hot- maybe not??
DB14 a lot of people speak about hitting 400 ft but not many do including with the Rock. I believe the same people will hit the Stote ball 400 ft as long as it's not too hot.
Don as always it's great to play you guys as you have a class team of quality players and of course one of the best looking coaches around. Look forward to seeing you in Vegas.

I don't want you to go away. I really enjoy your tournaments and I think overall you do a very good job offering top notch tournaments with great competition. Love the ballpark and appreciate your attitudes towards the way you generally approach the teams and players.
I didn't mention anything about the Rock although I do believe it's a better alternative plus I think it would attract more teams, however I'm not in disagreement with your statement of erratic flight patterns. I do believe that you can find some alternatives to the Stote ball in the heat. This applies to SSUSA and the tournaments in the warmer weather as well I was not trying to single you out. I really like the ball and believe it's a very fair ball except in the excessive heat. Other balls compression may decrease but not as much at this ball.
Boycotting is not positive and not a path I would normally advise, but if people don't want to at least listen to your concerns then you have to get their attention. Just tell me that you understand and will investigate and then hopefully you will.
It's not just about hitting a ball 400 ft but it's not about hitting 2-3 HR all tournament as a team. By the way I sure wouldn't want to be part of the cause of you losing your house!
Seriously, enjoyable tournament last weekend and I appreciate what you do for senior softball players.

Discussion: New HOF inductions

I was just informed that Gil Frelly and Dave Birones both Omen 65 players are to be inducted in the Hall of Fame in Las Vegas at SSUSA-Las Vegas National Tournament during the 65 Major Plus tournament this year. I wanted to congratulate both of these players and let you know I will be at the ceremony. Great ball players, teammates and even better people.

Discussion: Softball and hot weather!!

I know this has been discussed several times but it's starting to bug me. We go to these tournaments during the summer months (normally over 85 degrees) and play with softballs that normally are very fair balls but in the heat they lose so much that they are tough to hit for any distance. What really sets me off is the tournament directors do not seem to care.

Comments:This is the way it is or it's too expensive to change balls and ect.

What we need to do is boycott some of these tournaments and let some of these tournament directors see how expensive it is to investigate a better alternative vs not having teams show up. It's just getting frustrating to swing these low performing balls in the heat and it doesn't help you improve your game when you do play with decent balls.
Sorry to rant but wanted to know if I was alone in this thought process.

Discussion: SSHOF

I would like to extend my congratulations to the newest members of the SSHOF. Very impressive group and itís exciting to see Rick Perez, David Barnes and Vern Fowler being inducted. Well deserved and overdue in the case of Rick and Dave. Vern was elected in his first go around which is very impressive as well.
Three tough competitors who play the game the way it was meant to be played and even more important as outstanding as they are as players, they are even better individuals.

Discussion: Las Vegas 60 M+

60 Major Plus is really stepping up with some very good teams. Looking forward to Las Vegas and the number of quality teams that hopefully will be playing in Sin City. We played in Dalton SPA and I was very impressed with the overall quality of play by all the teams. Every game was a battle with all teams competing at a very high level. It was great to see Bruce and TRex with Edge, Audie and Ed fielded a very good Hollis team, Clatter, Tommy, Andy, RayRay and the rest of Superior was as competitive as always and Line Drive was loaded with Big Arm John, Wags, Jack and the rest of the team outstanding really playing great senior softball.
Bruce good luck with the surgery and please keep us updated as we are all pulling to get you back healthy. Mr. Manassas would be hard to miss as an excellent pitcher and a great hitter and a true gentleman of the game.
Vegas should be lots of fun and very competitive with the addition of Timberworks, Old Dawgs and D&K.

Discussion: Reviews for COMBAT DIRTY BAT

I have been hitting the "Dirty" most of the season and I'm very impressed with the bat. The bat is hitting the ball as well as any bat I have used and it's holding up well. I have put my other bats away and using only the "Dirty" in all major tournaments. I have seen a couple of the bats with the paint falling off- one of our guys has a bat that has lost quite bit of paint but the bats I have been using still looks great with little or no paint peeling.

Good luck

You and Ed have really put a great team on the field and with an exceptional bunch of competitive guys. Our entire team enjoyed playing against all of you and D&K and was very happy with the tournament. We congratulate you guys for really playing well and winning the tourney. We will be back after you in Dalton.
Thanks for the nice comments about Carroll and she was very impressed with you and your team as well.

Discussion: Vegas Spring 2013

Great tourney in Vegas with some outstanding play in the 60 Major Plus divisions. Not a large number of teams but good solid teams participated. Hollis put on a show all weekend and played well both offensively and defensively. Great to see all the guys and look forward to playing them again in Dalton - Class Act!!
D&K really played well and was in every game. Hit the ball hard and played well defensively.
I agree with Patty Mac this is why you play the game!!
Great job by the staff and enjoyed playing in the Field of Dreams....
Would have posted something earlier but was having problems getting to the reply scree.

Discussion: The Rock balls

Hollis team a great Las Vegas tournament with a very impressive hitting display using the Rocks (I don't really think it would have mattered which ball they were hitting). You all were really making those balls dance. D&K played very well and were hitting the Rocks very hard as well- we almost lost our right fielder on one that CC hit. Facing Kennard and Conway is tough enough without hitting the Rocks. Patty Mac could hit any ball hard but it was even more impressive with what he was doing with the Rocks.
Great ball but I have to admit the ball does move a lot, however if we had used the Stote's ball (normally a very good ball) they would have been worthless in that heat.
