A question for those that played in the tourney. What changes were implemented in this tournament? It sounds like you guys enjoyed being there.

Im just curious what we can expect when they finally allow us to take the field in Cali.

Discussion: Please, a story from anyone! Anything but Corona, Corona, Corona!

Early 90's we are playing in the championship game in one of our league nights for summer league. Its the last inning and we are up barely in a very close game. They are down to their last out. The batter hits a soft linedrive to our shortstop who decides to catch it behind his back. He made the catch and all of sudden they start swearing and dropping F bombs. Im thinking what are they upset for, its us who should have been mad. What if he dropped it and they came back and won the game. The swearing got so bad both umpires had to warn them. The irony is that this was a church sponsored team.

Discussion: Is Reno on or off?

The last newsletter dated May 13th said a go/ no go decision would be made 2 weeks prior to the atart of the tournament. Tomorrow will be that day as the tournament is scheduled to start on Tuesday June 2.

We should hear an official word tomorrow whether or not it is to take place.

Phoenix, you are correct. That is a strong possibility that we will not be playing there this year. There is 3 more tournaments that we have on our schedule to play there and 1 of those is June 6 , 7. The same weekend that Reno just got rescheduled on. We plan on playing in Reno even tho all the uncertainties.

The Pleasanton complex is one of our favorite places to play, it sure will be missed if we cant play there this year. Good places to eat next door, fields are usually in pretty good shape and one of the restaurants even has Pliny on tap !

Lets hope for the best, be safe !

It does not look good for the Sacramento tournament to happen. They ( NCSSA ) cancelled today the Manteca tournament that was also supposed to happen on the same weekend.

We were going to play in the Pleasanton 1 day tourney which was next Saturday the 9th and it was cancelled 13 days in advance. That is the same thing that happened to the Manteca tourney and Im sure they will announce by tomorrow that the Sac tournament is cancelled as well. At this time I think the ball could be viewed as the issue. Its the one piece of equipment that will be touched by several people, even on 1 play. We need for restrictions to be lifted further before Citys and Parks allow us to take the field again.

TAT22, while true what you are saying that some of those numbers will be inflated. But at 1st the only people getting tested had severe like flu symptoms and a fever due to the limited number of test kits that were available. As we speak more test kits are becoming available and drive thru test sites are popping up in various cities across the country. Now you can get tested if you have a fever, severe flu like symptoms, been in contact with someone that has Covid 19. The CDC is trying to track the hotspots across the country. What we will never know is how many people actually had Covid 19 the last few weeks and recovered. As more tests are administered and more people are tested, it seems to reason that the numbers of infections will only go higher.

How many had/have mild flu like symptoms but dont go to the hospital or their doctor to gst tested but instead ride it out like a regular flu.

I think if every single person was tested, the number of infections would be staggering. This whole shut down is to flatten the curve and not overwhelm the medical facilities. I have a feeling the numbers the next week are going to continue to climb in astounding numbers.

Gallon of milk costs $7.50 here. But to put things in perspective, a 2 bedroom apartment costs upward of $3,500 a month SF peninsula.

TWG, they ( SSUSA ) cannot make everyone happy, no matter what they do. I agree, if they are going to have a cutoff age, im surprised it wasnt 60's also.

The one thing to remember is that they are not telling us we have to play, its every player and his team that needs to decide what is best for themselves and their teammates and families. No one is being forced to attend that does not want to be there.

Jonsey, its a no win situation. If they do nothing at all they will be chastised for ignoring the situation, some will say its a money grab and they dont care about the players. The ' experts ' as of last night are still trying to figure out why it affects the over 60 population so much harder than those that are under 60.

I totally get why anyone over 65 would be upset over it. Id like to have a choice whether to attend or not, i dont want someone taking that away. Id rather play than be told that i cant.

I would like to think that SSUSA is trying to look after the players well being.

Coop, Id call SSUSA during business hours which is 8 - 5 PST. I dont think you will get a new card posting on the message board. In sure Tiffany or someone else in the office will have no problem getting you a card sent out.

If you have an upcoming tourney and your fees are paid and do not have your card, you can bring a valid picture Id.

Discussion: Why 2-day

Dave, you nailed it. A typical weekend with full brackets have 6 teams in each bracket played over 2 days. NCSSA does not classify teams by age and ratings but by rankings. Teams are put into groups and and a group can have teams from 50 to 65 for instance. The teams within each group generally are pretty equal. NCSSA does a pretty good for the most of getting the groups correct.

They have had a few 1 day tourneys but have not had a very good turnout for these. These have taken all day with game breaks between each game
and can be pretty brutal , especially towards the end of the day. We ( our team ) prefer playing over 2 days.

Discussion: New Adidas Senior Bats

Easy enough to find out if these are approved. The bat will have a " SSUSA APPROVED 1.21 BPF " stamp or printed on the barrel. Both the 1st and 2nd generation Melee's were approved. I still have a couple of each. 1st generation Melees ( Reebok) are hard to find, 2nd generation Melees ( Adidas) are still being sold. Im certain these new Melees have been approved. It would not wise to sell a bat which cannot be used for tournament play.

Sounds like Lefty has one in his possession, maybe he can confirm if the bat has the ' approved ' stamp on it.
