Discussion: Stoneman Reno Tournament Answer

Stoneman you mistakenly assumed I, Larry Campbell, this years Old A's 55 major plus manager was Gary Tryhorn, last years manager, when I approached you and your entire team in Reno this June. We were a 55 team playing exhibition in the 50 major plus division. My catcher tested your bat after you hit by balancing it. After he pointed this out to me I did not go to the umpire, I approached you and your team directly and told you all that I suspected that you and your pitcher had used that bat and that it was altered by removing the rod in the handle. Four or five of your teammates became irate and the rest simply listened. You showed me the bat and claimed it was balanced. The only problem was that you were balancing it at the point were the barrel ends and the taper to the handle starts. Then you handed me the bat and I showed you the proper location to balance the Miken Ultra two was actually two inches towards the handle from the location described above. When I balanced your bat in front of your entire team, the barrel end dropped immediately, indicating the bat was end loaded and not balanced. The most common method to achieve this is to remove the metal weighted rod in the handle. Fact. Your bat was illegal. Fact. I came to you as a coach and player and not to the umpire or any other tournament director. Fact. I simply asked that you not use the bat against us for the rest of the game. Fact. I told your team that I had no intention of doing anything more about the bat. Fact. After the game I came back to your team and try to have a reasonable discussion on the bat issue but was again met with profanity and immature behavior. Fact. In December of last year I presented a plan to the summit to have tournament bats provided at the field at the National level to eliminate this problem. They turned it down. Last two Facts. My name is Larry Campbell, Mgr. California Old A's 55 Major Plus World Champions and we beat you that game with legal bats......
