| April 10, 2017 RRG | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Hot box I cannot find the rule covering this play. Runner on 1st, no outs. Ground ball to the 2nd baseman. Runner on 1st starts to run to 2nd base, but stops to avoid the tag and starts to run back to 1st, but does not reach first base. Umpire calls the runner out because he ran back in the direction of first base and says he cannot do that unless the batter/runner was out before the runner on first base initially started to run back to first base. |
