| Jan. 17, 2020 lowprofile | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Interference I'm not sure what the rule is the way it's written? here what's written, I skipped A through D here's all E says... 8.3 • BATTER-RUNNER IS OUT E. When he interferes with a fielder attempting to field a batted ball or intentionally interferes with a fielder attempting to throw the ball. We know the runner is out for interference and dead ball, but it says BATTER-RUNNER? IMO the batter leads off the next inning as he did not make an out (it went foul) the runner did. I could be wrong? |

And yes I am in So. cal. and you are correct we almost get to play year round, but last year playing Hemet tourneys I think we missed 4 straight months for the first time that I can remember missing that much. Anyways don't want to cause any waves here just wanted to address both sides guys! Have a great new season guys. |

I personally could care less about getting a refund, I don't think I've ever got money back from any of my coaches after a rain out? And if I played 3 games Saturday, I'm totally good with that! we all grew up playing U-trip or ASA and you know how that worked...out in two and BBQ! But as for your list, people are gonna say PARENTHESIS is the key here (....) 1) Transportation for umpires (PLAYERS) has already been paid. 2) Two nights housing may have already been paid (by the PLAYERS) especially if tourney not cancelled until Sunday, hoping for better weather. 3) The umps may have been guaranteed a set fee as salary and turned down (PLAYERS PLAYING) umpiring options at other sites with no rain. 4) No dispute there. 5) The food and beverage options are also likely booked for weekend with no/partial only refunds from vendors. (NOT SURE ABOUT THAT AS THAT STUFFS PRETTY CHEAP) 6)Auxiliary workers (field prep, security, maintenance, etc.) may also be contracted for full weekend pay. (I'M THINKING THAT STUFF IS INCLUDED WHEN YOU RENT THE FIELDS BY THE CITY? I COULD BE WRONG? SECURITY? LOL) 7) Housing for players may have discounts offered/subsidized by TD and expect full nights stay. (THINKING THAT STUFF IS OFFERED BY THE HOTELS NOT THE TD'S AS THEY WANT THE BUSINESS, BUT I COULD BE WRONG? 8) Costs for prizes have already been paid and figured in to the budget and expected income. ( WELL HECK NOT GONNA GET INTO THAT AS IT'S A CHEESY SUBJECT HAHA) Anyways I have no problem with not getting a refund especially after getting 3 games in, what everyone's gonna get 10 bucks? lol keep it and maybe go towards better prizes in the future? I only wrote above because you know it's coming. |

As I said most batters don't move there back foot so yes some batters have maybe longer legs, maybe there stride is a little longer, hence stepping out of the box. mck71 I totally agree with all of your points, and yes if some idiot is completely running up and pissing middle and out of the box, by all means CALL HIM OUT! So anyways ty for the info maybe there is some method to my madness about a line drawn at the front of home plate! so ty mck! |

As I have stated before if you watch any videos on you tube the one common denominator is the back foot, I would say 90 percent of batters line up there back foot anywhere from the middle of the plate to the front of the plate, from there they just pick up there front foot and stride forward, some open up or have a bigger stride and step out of the box, but there back foot never moves. Maybe draw a line at the front of the PLATE and let people stride as big as they want as long as there back foot does not protrude further than the line drawn at the front of the plate. Your only talking about maybe 6 inches of stride from person to person at most. The only reason I say this is at every tourney and every game the rule is broken and end the end people get pissed at the ump for either calling someone out or not enforcing the rule. Also if were worried about the pitcher getting hit, why not just put up a screen in front of the pitchers....problem solved. Logistic nightmare for SSUSA I'm sure with the amount of fields they use to have to drag these things from tourney to tourney IMO not ever gonna happen. I feel for the pitchers as I would never want to pitch unless I was in full tactical gear ready for war lol. |

As for the worlds being posted, I was looking at the 50's and you could just barely read the hand written scores as they were not always written clearly and someone did it on colored paper lol? I couldn't even read the 50 majors, I think it was like on pink paper or something on some of the brackets? and barely legible. I think Nancy makes a valid point as we all are at risk of having a heart attack at our ages and my hats off to SSUSA for having the for-site to have the AEDs on site just incase! SSUSA does have a great product because we would not be playing if they didn't, I think this is the only sticking point for this organization that almost all the players look forward too seeing but not available. For me I want to see the entire bracket with all the scores not just top 3 JMO. Every year this subject comes up, and I'm sure it's something there looking into. |

The runners then advance at there own risk. because the other players say they didn't hear the Infield Fly called well that's a he said she said moment by the runners and the ump. Here's part of the rule...When it becomes apparent that a batted ball will be an infield fly, the umpire shall immediately declare, "infield fly - batter is out", to aid the runners. If the ball is near the foul lines, the umpire shall declare, "infield fly - if fair". The ball is live and runners may advance at the risk of the ball being caught, or re-touch and advance after a fielder touches the ball. I can't help you with...THERE IS NOTHING IN THE RULE BOOK COVERING THIS UMPIRE MISTAKE (CAPS YELLING LOL) I don't know what to say about the runners not hearing the call? that's on the ump as he needs to say it loud and clear, I gotta believe the batter and catcher heard it lol. |

Thinking it should of been a tag play at second, not a force out. I could be wrong? Ump or director maybe should have looked it up in the rule book? |

I'm just stating a fact of batters stepping out of the box and some getting called out...and ALOT not! another 2-3 feet? how do you figure that? nothing changes, if everyone still like I stated....keeps there back foot within the plate which 90 percent do, then you have no issue with umpire having to call you out...or not. Most batters line up in mid or the front of the plate with there BACK foot and it doesn't move when swinging, just the front foot strides...OUT of the box (2 to 3 feet? lmbo). This was just a thought, just wanting some feedback, I know it's not gonna change, and L I cant remember the last time I was called out for stepping OUT of the box. Hey Awe-dawg, thinking its just some umps do and some don't call it but ty sir. BLD seems to have bigger boxes than SSUSA sanctioned boxes, but I could be wrong? |

Forgot to add...my thinking is as long as the back foot stays within the mat area when swinging then it should be ok, almost all batters back foot always stay within the mat while swinging. again just a thought lol. |

Just throwing this out there, would it be possible to eliminate the front line of the box? as we all can see, not all umps enforce this rule and it gets blatantly abused. Players get pissed because they just got called out for stepping out of the box, saw it in Vegas. The one common denominator is everyone lines up there back foot with the plate and stride forward out of the box with there front foot. We have adult bodies and all were doing is picking up our front foot and striding forward with it, were not charging the pitcher and then swinging, but just seems like we should be able to pickup our front foot and stride to the ball. Lemme know any opinions or where I'm wrong with this? if it's a hit the pitcher thing...maybe putting up a screen could solve the problem of pitchers safety with or without the front line gone. All just a thought. |
| July 19, 2019 lowprofile | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Batter's Box Hey Wayne, I'm note interpreting it that way, some portion of both feet on or inside the lines of the batter's box, I'm thinking as long as part of your foot is touching the line your ok whether it's inside or outside of the line or box but I could be wrong? I wish the line was further back because the back of the mat is almost even with the back line and that's pretty ridiculous, it forces us to come to the front of the plate if we like to step into the pitch. thinking we've all grown up playing tourneys and I don't remember any association having the mat almost even with back line? not sure of the philosophy behind the box in SSUSA but we have all adapted lol. This subject just makes me think of the the back of the batters box and where I put my foot. sorry Wayne didn't mean to heist your thread with a little off the main subject matter. | May 5, 2019 lowprofile | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: ASA stamps and newer bats etc Well first of all, anything saying Senior softball is strickly used for Senior softball only and cannot be used in ASA play as the BPF IS 1.21 (TOO HOT).As per your shout out in the thread under this one. As for those other bats, I do not believe those also meet the requirments as they would need an ASA stamp on them to to play in an ASA tourney or league night. There are plenty of hot ASA bats out there, you just need to do some research. Just type in ASA bats and you should get a numerous amount of bat companys to pop up. Or join some softball groups on Facebook and just put out there your looking for an ASA bat and people will respond back to you with bats they will sell you cheap if you dont want to purchase a new bat (I'm in 3 groups and everyones selling bats). JMO, hope this helps a little. |

May 18-19 Hey Oz, looks like we had 6 AAA teams last year, but only 3 major and major+ total for them. the stadium gets pretty full with all the other age groups. If you guys are going to play AAA my guess is you will have no problem with a turn out of at least 6 teams or more. |

So yes I do see your point sir, I was not aware of thier NCSSA so I get it being alot of them are none TOC qualifiers, so it makes since now. And yes we are lucky to have SOCALSSA as I think it gives most any team an outlet to play here in So. Cal. and usualy these tourneys draw a lot of teams. Also I'm truly happy this year your putting our state in Hemet, I know we tried to get you guys to go to Hemet as a lot of us signed a pettion to get you guys to try Hemet.... it looks like it passed! SOCALSSA does a great job and I'm sure most of us are happy we have them. So thanks for getting back to me Dave and explaining the situation to me...nuff said I'm done with this topic. Are you going to be at the Vegas tourney at the end of this month? if so I will come hit you up for a quick chat! |

Maybe due to desert location the fields are not the best IDK? but I dont want to slam any state, I was just wondering about the disparity in number of tourneys with the big difference in the amount of teams is all. I truly dont want anyone in AZ to be upset with what I have said! was just curious. |

As I look at the tourneys for the year for the South Western area Cal and Arizona I took 2 divisions 50s and 55s being most popular and noticed there's almost twice as many tourneys in Az as opposed to Ca.? 15(Az) / 8(Cal) but team wise there's 106 Ca. teams to 32 Az teams, just in So. Cal alone there's 52 teams, why such disparity tourney wise when Ca. has almost 3 times as many teams? prices of the fields? Seems like you guys could make a heck of a lot more money having tourneys in Ca. as opposed to Az.(nothing against Az. fine state!) I'm thinking not a lot of Ca. teams are traveling to Az for any small tourneys. I did not go back prior years so maybe your alternating years and this year is AZ turn for more tourneys or is it this way every year? either way just wondering the thinking behind it? Dbax Were playing in two weeks in So. Cal (Hemet) so far we have 30 teams registered (50s through 65) probably couple more before tourney date, then we have Vegas just two weeks after that, we would probably have more if Vegas wasn't so close. |

Dave that sounds great, I did notice the big tourneys have the brackets complete, the smaller ones not so much, but that's cool. I do get it that it's hard to come up with something as large as some of the tourneys you guys put on especially when there's the seeding games!so I guess as long as it's in the back of your guy's minds that's all we can ask, keep up the great work sir. Hello SSUSA, I know this is a sore topic and an issue to many of us ball players, as with most of us we know many teams and players and would love to see how they did or how there doing? Maybe six months ago this was brought up in another post and barbs were thrown. I defended it saying basically SSUSA is aware and im guessing there probably trying to figure out how to get the scores of ALL the games up in a timely manor. My qestion is...Is there anything in the works to try to get the scores up the same day or within a couple days lol with some new technology? I personaly love it when the whole bracket is filled out with the scores and not just the top three finishers posted WITH NO SCORES on the tournament page. I dont want this to get into a heated disscusion just wondering if SSUSA is addressing this? and if not no biggie will live with what we get. if anyone else disagrees with my statements please let me know. |
