We play softball on the weekends and talk about softball during the week, what's the harm and why have a message board if you can't talk about softball? It's great that I've got some intel on the team we are about to play, thanks 65phantom22!

There are dozens of teams from Charlotte to Myrtle Beach that play in that area. You should have no trouble finding a team. Good Luck hope you knock it out of the park

65phantom22, this is a great analysis of the two teams and I appreciate the insight. My comment was tongue in cheek because anytime someone does good, the people they beat tend to make invalid claims...they are playing down, using shaved bats, cheating some how etc. Everyone wants a chance to win...This senior stuff is so fragmented you can sometimes win tournaments without even playing anyone. Either way, it's all fun and I will continue to play as long as there are 9 other people willing to take the field with me.

Discussion: LV Field question?

On the message board you have the 55 majors playing at Desert Breeze Park. That Park is not on the list of parks or the map. Can you put the address/location of Desert Breeze Park on the list? Any other information about the park would also be interesting to know. Turf/Grass, Age, Fence distance, etc.

Discussion: Am i wrong to think this way

Please look at the string started in May titled "enough said" If you are altering a senior bat you may need help. They are all super hot already and if you can't hit it well, it's not the bat. I hear people suggest others are cutting/shaving bats, but it could just be that they are good hitters.

Discussion: What’s your call

Seems absurd that someone would throw the ball like that, but you did say it was not a "mature" men's game. Trying to make that argument would be embarrassing to me; you lost, he came through, tip your hat. However, One thing to think of is if the other baserunners don't get to the next base, the force out is still in effect. If they are celebrating and not paying attention, you could get a force out which would negate the run and the batter would be out on a fielder's choice. But in this case the force out at third is not in effect because the runner on second scored. Throwing it to 3rd was a illogical thing to do but we know how frustrated ballplayers don't always make sound decisions. Now that you explained it, if the force out is not an option, the next time someone hits a walk off base hit against me, I'll get the ball and aim for people celebrating :)

Discussion: Columbus IN

I'm just glad we can still play and I really appreciate all the effort put out just to make it possible for us to play. There are too many people out there that think they should be treated like kings as if they were stars on an MLB team.

I want to make a positive comment that the umpires were great, especially the father son duo we had at Dunn. I hope all the whining doesn't discourage them from continuing to participate. But the 7 games we played were all well umped, we made more mistakes than the umps did.

Here are the issues we would like to see addressed for the Columbus, IN tournament

1. I do agree that Dunn fields were worse than Cane Ridge in Nashville, and almost as bad as Cincinnati. If those fields are our only option, we will sit it out next year. I'll spare you the description because I think you know.

2. The brackets also were not properly thought out. We had to win our third game, one in the winners and two in the losers, to get to a team that lost their first game in the winners and won one in the losers. So in bracket play we were 3-1 and had to play at 8am on Sunday to get to a team who was 1-1 at 9:30. Winning our first game hurt us. I love the 3GG in bracket play but you need to make the O-2 teams play each other and eliminate the loser of that game.

3. Too many teams were brought back for Sunday. If you started the day on Sunday in the losers bracket, you would have to win 6 games in a row in 97 degree heat to go all the way. I saw a team do it but it's not ideal. Makes for a long drawn out weekend with a lot of down time only to be compressed at the end.

4. The gold dot ball is really bad when it heats up with any humidity. Makes the outfielders look really good and who needs that? If you want evidence look at the run totals.

Overall, it's the 5th time I've played that one and I've enjoyed all of them. Thanks for all you to do allow us to continue to stay young at least in our hearts and minds.

IMO... when the glove left your hand it no longer is part of your "body" and you have lost control. Very much the same as if it were a base. If the ball hits the base and pops up and you catch it before it hits the ground, it's a hit unless you throw the runner out at first. Imagine if you were running for a pop up and you realized you were not going to get there so you throw your glove on the ground, the ball hits your glove and you catch it before it hits the ground. Loss control of glove = loss control of ball.

So... what if it wasn't the catcher who yelled? What if it was a fan in the stands directly behind the catcher and everyone thought it was the catcher?

Just to clarify.. I don't believe the call was not commensurate with the rules; great call that took courage to make. What I am saying is the runner should not have stopped running according to basic fundamentals for playing the game. It seems like he forced a call to be made that was not really needed. With 2 outs, I'm running until someone stops me. Also, I've done a lot worse, not out of trying to be deceptive, but as a verbal cheerleader and I assume no one listens or cares what I might say; because you never know. HOWEVER, my real pet peeve is how players make mistakes and then hope the umpires bail them out. Until the players play perfect, why do we expect the umpires to be perfect? How many times have you seen a team make 5 errors in an inning and them blow up over a borderline call?

Not sure I like your call here BJ. It's the runners responsibility to keep running if there are 2 outs, he needs to keep going until he sees the umpire's call because as you said our senior eyes may trick us. Also, people, myself included, say all kinds of stupid things during the course of a play, I would hate to think anyone actually listened and changed their actions as a result. Think about how many times people tell someone chasing a ball and saying "you've got room" or "out of play" and their wrong. I say, Run until your coach or the umpire says to stop running. Certainly never going to listen to a catcher, he probably told your batter to swing too, which was clearly a mistake. I would let the results of the play stand.

Not the most direct route to the outside plate/line, what would cause a player to run diagonally and not directly toward home?

Great that it will be called a ball as it should be, especially in front of the plate; no way to hit that ball and stay in the box. But the same dimension apply to the side of the mat. If a ball hits the side of the mat in the same way, it will always be called a strike.

Before you alter a bat in any way (rolling, shaving, tennis balls, etc.), I would ask you to consider your personal liability risk. Suppose you do something extraordinary to a bat that makes it exceed it's intended performance limits, or even if it didn't change the bat's performance. If you injure another player, you are at risk to litigation for willful misconduct or negligence for violating safety precautions. If the injured player choses to pursue legal action, you will regret having done such alterations. And for what; fly balls that may go 20 feet further?

Last year there was controversy at Cedar Hill where the 50m played. The nets have holes, when the ball passes through a hole in the net and you can't tell if it went over or through, its hard to determine if it were a HR or 2B. Also, you're going to need lots of balls as they ran out last year and it got somewhat contentious. Neither park is super great, but both are serviceable and still very fun to watch 4 games at one time. I suspect the nice ones in Nashville were unavailable.
