March 25, 2018 Linknblue | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Ground rule double/courtesy runner You have to touch the bases. If the defense "appealed properly" then we have an out. Proper appeals are by the manager and before the next pitch. |
March 25, 2018 Linknblue | Topic: Website comments Discussion: what is the call The runner is safe if "anyone" tagged him after the line. If he's straddling it he's passed the line. The ball remains live. The catcher cannot run to the plate and get a force out....The run scores as soon as the tag is made. If anyone tags "before" the line he's out...period. |
Aug. 5, 2015 Linknblue | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: How to Play More Innings Starting with a 1 and 1 count doesn't NOT speed up the game. Most tournament players are swinging within the first 2 to 4 swings anyway. With the extra "foul" ball you are really adding back the strike into the count so you've really only eliminated a ball from the count. You want to speed up the game. Stop with all the discussions on anything remotely being a judgement call by the umpire. Every one doesn't get to voice their oplinion and as "mature" players we all do that. Only allow the manager to talk to the umpire and no one else. In between innings, at the very least, JOG back onto the field. If yyou team takes 1 1/2 to 2 extra minutes to get to their positions after the last out that's 10 minutes right there. In between the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 5th innings and somethings between the 6th and 7th inning. Sometimes we take longer with the really senior players. Be ready when it's your turn to bat. Speed up the courtesy runners process. You want a courtest runner, have them ready "immediately". If you're not ready, you'll have to wait til you are. You know who needs runners and who doesn't. Have the home team be the "official" scorekeeper. Umpires don't need to keep score and sometimes that slows down the process. I've done softball for 40 plus years and senior softball is the only group that I've seen tasking the umpires with keeping score and tracking HR's. But of course that's me here on the West Coast. |
Oct. 10, 2007 Linknblue | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Why not adopt ASA's rules? Geez guys, read the post. I said, in so many words, why not adopt their set of rules to use in our play and then change what we want for our organization, that's all. The comment about bad bats, balls and umpires can apply to any organization for cry'n out loud. All I'm saying is ASA has a good set of rules for slowpitch and it also has rules for senior slow pitch. We can still be the SSUSA with a "standard" set of rules for tournaments and play. Why leave it to TD's to decide what rules they want their tourneys to play under? If we want to come up with a bat list, then fine we can. If we want to come up with a ball standard, we can. If we have our set of rules then the umpires we get will just have to enforce "our" rules, not ASA's, USSSA's or anyone else's rules. No one is proposing taking away your "hot" bats and making you less of a hitter. |
Oct. 10, 2007 Linknblue | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Why not adopt ASA's rules? Question: Why do we as an organization not adopt the ASA set of rules to use in our play. They have been tried and tested for years? If we want a "special" rule(s) for our organization then we can make "exception" rules to ASA. A rule that comes to mind is the "foul tip" rule and the "over the head" thing that's not in conformance with ASA. |
