Discussion: Al Dreschler - Pace Softball - Suddenly Passed Away

I was really saddened when told of Al's Passing. Great guy who loved to play ball. I will always remember him when he was in Cleveland for my SPA Big Cat Classic last year. It was one of those tough days when the wind is really blowing hard and in. Nobody was hitting any out until Big Al hit 3 in a row. It was quite impressive. He was using one of the bats I sold him. We talked in between games. Like I said I will remember his smiling face after he would hit one of those high flying bombs. May He Rest In Peace. God Bless.

Appreciate the feedback gentleman. Yes the X-Rock is a little bit more money. We do make a synthetic micro-cell ball for the ISA. I will bring that up at the ISA convention.. I know the balls do have that tendecy to knuckle. Glad to see the tourney was another success. It is unbelievable to have have all of those teams. Nice job by the SSUSA..

I have talked to a few players already that have been back from Vegas. Said that the X-Rock ball was flying out of all of the ball parks. That is good to hear. They were holding up just fine in the Vegas weather. I saw where Louisville Slugger was giving some bats out to test or use. They look good in a picture that was on facebook. Looks like Ron Parnell is going to be promoting them. Could not ask for a better person. He is still doing his thing like he was 35.

Thanks Guys

Just to make sure I understand, what balls are you saying that doesn't have the correct core or compression test specs on it? Thanks

Marv19 if you need any Trump Stote or Rock softballs let me know, I will take care of that for you. The Baden is not the same as the ISA Rock Ball that is for sure. I don't know what the core of the Baden ball is but it is not the same as the ISA X Rock. The Rock balls is a 44/375 cor/comp. It does have multi layers. If you have anymore questions about the X-Rock, just e-mail me at mike@bigcat844.com. I will get you any info you need... Thanks.

Fabe, not sure yet on Vegas. Probably won't make it this year. Would love to meet you and talk softball. You know I am a hitter so you know I want to hit homeruns just like everybody else. I love to see good defensive plays also. One thing is for sure, the X-Rocks do make it a little tougher to catch a line drive coming right at you. That is for sure.

You can do what Mighty Joe Young used to do when he had to play the outfield. If he caught it he would throw to the outfielder next to him and tell him to throw that shit in. He was quite a character on the field. He used to make me laugh most of the time with his lingo.

Discussion: The Rock balls

Yes the X-Rock softballs have a tendency to bounce more than a regular 44/375. The reason being the extra cover underneath the outside cover. The SSUSA has been using the Trump/Stote 44/375 balls for years. It is a synthetic cover. Great ball. What happened was Las Vegas used the ISA X-Rock when they had their tournament in Vegas. Yes the balls were flying even in the heat. In Phoenix where the SSUSA played their tournament in late September or early October for a number of years the synthetic covered ball was used. When the SSUSA and Las Vegas merged it brought the X-Rock ISA ball back into tournament play. So here SSUSA has changed their program format and now play the Nationals in Vegas with the X-Rock. So you can use the synthetic cover and the ball will stay down more and not be as bouncy, BUT won't fly like the X-Rock in the heat. I don't have any answers on the matter. It all comes down to, what you prefer. Defence where you don't have to wear a helmet to catch the ball or homeruns flying out of the park like missells. Hope this helps a little bit. Hav a great day players...

Discussion: Looking for information

I have been contacted by a couple of different players that are looking for the White Centenarian or Black Centenarian senior bats. They actually said that someone was selling them for 75.00 out of their truck or car at one of the last senior events. They players have even contacted SSUSA about the subject. A number of different people's names have come out about it but I was hoping I might be able to actually hear from someone that saw it or purchaesd one. The info is strictly for finding out who was doiong it. If you have any info you can email me at mike@bigcat844.com.. I have never seen that before but some players claim they have. Appreciate your input..

If it didn't happen that is fine too. Just wonder about a rumor like that... Thanks...

Discussion: Looking for information

Since the senior bats all have the same 1.21 bpf it would not seem possible that the ball will go any father. But if they use a different blend of composites which Don Cooper told me then maybe the bat will last a little longer. He said that they used a different blend and basically that is it. I believe the whole concept was to put the two different models as one bat line. Jeff Wallace signature model in 3 diferent sizes. 13 in Balanced or Full load, and the 10 inch which we all know is already designed as a full load. The Black and the White Cent's are almost all gone. From talking with Jeff he says the bat has great pop. I am sure he is hitting it a long way. Jeff has been one of the best hitters in softball the last 15 years if not the best. Clutch hitter. Once the White and Black are gone you will have to buy the new Jeff Wallace to get the Centenarian feel. Good Luck and have fun...

The new 2014 model is a Jeff Wallace Signature model. It is a great stick made by Combat again. You should be able to buy them fron Allen in a 10 inch and 13 inch model. Balanced or Full Load. If you need to see a picure of it you can go to Just bats.com to see a picture of it. Hope this helps.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer did a nice article on myself and the years of softball in Cleveland, Ohio. It once was the capitol of softball. If you want to you can check it out here.

Discussion: Yellow Combat MM Gear vs Blue MM Gear

The Yellow MM and the Blue MM are exactly the same bat. The only difference is we did not make a 10 inch. As far as one bat lasting 1 year and another breaking before game time, that could happen with any bat. I don't believe Combat would lie to us about the make up of the bat. I have hit the Blue bat and mine plays like my Yellow MM. I don't believe they made any special adjustments to my Blue bat. I bought it from Anaconda...

Discussion: Red Combat

After Anaconda brought out the Original Grey Senior bat Kevin thought a 10 inch barrel would play very well with the Combat technology. I thought so too along with Coop. With the shorter barrell it really makes for a good endload. With that endload in a short barrell it will hlp generate a little bit more bat speed in your swing..

As a matter of fact I had them make 6 bats for me that weighed 31.5 ounces. I like a heavy bat. I hit some balls with that bat in Loudon the one year that were going 500 feet with this bat. I was hitting in front of some players from the New York Statesman team. The bats were not illegal.,. If you know anyone that has one, give it a try. I am sure Bruce is happy with his. Unless you have a dud, the bat played great. We used the 10 inch barrell with the Mike Macenko Yellow Combats along with a 13 inch barrell. I still have one 10 inch left in the Yellow MM.

This is one reason the White Centenarian plays so good. Small barrell.

Just my input. Just trying to help you understand the concept...
