Discussion: AA teams playing Major +?

Bruce: Two common solutions are: 1) Lesser ranked team get 5 runs for each level of opposing team they must play. Or, choice of, 2) Lesser ranked team gets an extra player. Example: -- AA team plays a major team and gets a choice of 10 handicap runs or an extra player. AAA plays a major team -- choice of 5 additional runs or an extra player.
... Interestingly, I've observed the most negative reactions come from the teams that must do the "giving." The "getting" teams still think they're taking it in the ------.
Best regards, Jim

Hi T.T. .... SSUSA's 2003-2004 Rulebook says "yes." You have the situation correct. See pages 52 - 54 ... 9.2 Roster Restrictions and 9.2 (2) Adding Players.
... I don't know SPA's roster rules.

Discussion: SSUSA/WC 2004 Bat Policy

Hi Guys: Just noticed SSUSA has put their "2004 Bat Policy" on the top right hand corner of this website. I think it's very player friendly of them to let us all know what bats they'll allow in their 2004 Qualifiers and Championships.
... Interestingly, they are one of the few national softball associations to still allow us to use our Ultra IIs (LVSSA, also?) and do not require the previously banned ASA bats to be "re-certified." Apparently, using 47 x 375 balls has satisfied their concern regarding player safety. We can continue to use our Ultra IIs in SSUSA/WC's events. Yea!! Thanks Terry.

Discussion: Bat Standards

Hi Mick: Excellent post. You've made a very thoughtful case for adapting the game beyond improving the speed and distance a bat can project a ball or banning the bat. You're correct (IMO), most of us seniors are not "home-run hitters." We get great pleasure from making good contact, watching and feeling our line-drive singles and doubles "stay in the park" and help our teams be competitive, win and have fun. Mark ... Announce sign-ups for your "wood bat only" league and you can count me in.
... Thanks again for your comments ... They made me dream about a game I love. My thanks to you.
.... Keep thinking and sharing.
