| Feb. 2, 2013 berger | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: screen printed shirts Gideon60, as taits states, I'd prefer to go local also, but since money talks, this company out of Kentucky beat any price I was able to come up with locally (here in the KC area anyway). http://centralscreenprinting.com/new/ Don't really decide what you think they can do for you based on the product you see on-line (for shirts, hats, etc.) for any softball attire. The site does not do them justice in that respect. You need to call Nathan Randall 800.693.3299 (Ext. 306), or e-mail him nathanrandall@centralscreenprinting.net to find out what they have to offer. |
| Nov. 22, 2012 berger | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: 60s scores in Phoenix Mark, please, no apology necessary. Maybe I'm the one who should be apologizing if I've been giving everyone the impression that I was upset about statements made on this thread. I didn't take yours, or anyone else's comments/remarks as being critical of our decision to appeal. I've simply been trying to explain why we made our decision. See ya around. |
| Nov. 22, 2012 berger | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: 60s scores in Phoenix Gentlemen, sorry (once again) for not planning on being part of SSUSA's 2013 list of 60 Major+ teams. We (the KC Kids) did OK in 2011 when we were moved up to Major+, and had no intentions of ever moving back down. We were proud to be there, and welcomed the competition. Here in the KC area, we regularly played against the 50+ KC Barons in local tournaments (when they were rated Major, and even Major+ for 1 year). We also played other regional 50, and 55 Major teams in those tournaments -- simply because there are no 60 Major, or Major+ teams within hundreds of miles of the KC area.....and we enjoyed the challenge of playing them !!! However, we lost 7 of our 2011 roster players in 2012......for various reasons. 3 of them moved up to the area's first 65 Major team, 3 were lost to career-ending injuries, and 1 moved down to play in (what he felt is) a more competitive 55 Major division. No, we didn't breeze through things in 2011 -- but we did play .546 ball that year against other Major+ teams. That figure dropped to a disappointing .363 winning percentage in 2012. That was NOT, however, why we decided to appeal to move down to Major (which, by the way, has not YET been approved by SSUSA). The main reason we appealed is because, even though we were competitive in 2011 (basically playing .500 ball), our average per game run differential for 2011 was +1.97. For all our Major+ games in 2012, we had a -6.7 per game run differential. That's a difference of almost 9 runs per game. So, we wait for SSUSA'a decision. Hope to see you guys around some tournaments in 2013 !!!! Clint Berger KC Kids |
| Nov. 12, 2012 berger | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: How many active 60 Major Plus teams for 2013? After getting drummed for an "average" loss margin of 14 runs per game at the World Masters in Las Vegas, the KC Kids have appealed to be re-classified as a Major team. If that doesn't pan out, we will either disban -- since it's obvious we're not a Major+ team either, or be forced to only play SPA tournaments (where we are properly rated - as a Major team....on a good day). John states (above) they're not even a good "mid-range" Major+ team. Well, if that's the case, what does that make us?.......since they (Master Collision) were one of the teams that beat us in Vegas. We're not even a good "low-class" Major+ team. And the problem we have with breaking-up is that individually we have no place to go in the Midwest / Kansas City area to hook up with another Major+, or even Major, team. They're just not any around. We all love playing together, but we're simply no match for the Major+ teams out there right now. We're wasting what little time some of us may have left to play softball, and throwing our money away flying around the country, trying to compete with the likes of Hollis, Turn Two, Mobley, GSF (or MTC....if that's what they will be in 2013), etc. Sorry, fellas. Gonna have to find someone else to use for your tournament "practice" games. Clint Berger KC Kids |
| June 18, 2012 berger | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: WESTERN NATIONALS IN AURORA, COLORADO John (goforit), to address your post from June 10th, yes the KC Kids will be in Aurora. |
| June 11, 2012 berger | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 60 Major Plus Las Vegas Yes, the KC Kids will be there too.......so you guys have someone to pound on. :-) |
| May 31, 2012 berger | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Rock in Reno 60s I was told, by the mananger of KC Renegades, that they got double-dipped by Enviro-Vac. Reportedly, the Renegades were leading the first game by 6, but Enviro-Vac came from behind (late) to beat them, and then they lost the 2nd game by 8, or so. |
| Jan. 8, 2012 berger | Topic: Teams looking for players Discussion: 60+ Team Looking for Players The KC Kids 60s Major+ team had two players turn 65 in 2012. Theyve decided to play in the 65 year-old age group this year. Also had 2 others retire (the end of the 2011 season) due to health issues/problems. So, looking for some replacements going forward. We are a tournament team we do travel .and do pay for our own expenses in the process. Played in 12 tournaments in 2011 (ranging from locally in the Kansas City area, to driving to MN; IA; OK; TX; CO; ..to flying to Reno; Phoenix; Dalton, GA; etc.). If interested, please contact clintberger@hotmail.com or call my cell @ 913.481.7937. |
| Dec. 2, 2011 berger | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: TOC 2012 JohnBob, the KC Kids had a team meeting when we returned from the Worlds (in Phoenix). At that time we agreed we were going. I made my plane reservations, and was on the verge of signing a room contract, when things started to fall apart -- players backing out. Bottom-line, we will not be there. |
| Oct. 31, 2011 berger | Topic: Teams looking for players Discussion: KS 60s Major+ team looking towards 2012 60s Major+, Kansas-based, team (KC Kids) have two 65 year old players who have made it known they are moving up to play 65 in 2012, and have 2 more players who retired (due to health issues/problems) after the recent 2011 Worlds in Phoenix. So, we are looking for replacements for the 2012 season. If interested, please contact me at clint.berger@dexone.com or call my cell @ 913.481.7937. |
| Aug. 9, 2011 berger | Topic: Website comments Discussion: check this out! JLD930, I guess I'll have to take some of the blame for you getting moved up.....since I did mention your team's name in my July 24th message above. However, doing as well as Master Collision has done over the past 2 years, it makes more sense you being there than the KC Kids being rated Major+. Guess we my be seeing you again then, going forward.......if we stay together after this season, and continue to play SSUSA tournaments. |
| July 27, 2011 berger | Topic: Website comments Discussion: check this out! JonnBob, we play the SPA Eisenhower Mid-American Natinals this coming weekend.....which is when we plan to discuss the future of the KC Kids (short-term, and also long-term). The St. Louis tournament was on our 2011 tournament schedule, but the news of us being bumped to Major+ has sent shockwaves through our team --- to the extent that this coming weekend's tournament may be out last. |
| July 26, 2011 berger | Topic: Website comments Discussion: check this out! Hey Brock, if you, or anyone you talk to, ever figure it out (i.e., why / how the Kids were, justifiably, moved up), please let all of us know. Other than Al33 (who posted above), and those who oviously made this decision, I have yet to find anyone who has the answer. |
| July 24, 2011 berger | Topic: Website comments Discussion: check this out! You are correct bbullett (unless I'm missing something). If you look at the 5 teams -- on http://seniorsoftball.com/wc/wc2011/TOC-Invites-2012.pdf -- that have already qualified for the 2012 TOC (other than your KC Kids team)........ Double LL Roofing (FL) [SNC] Master Collision (CO) [SWC] Northern Virginia Force [WNC] Robson.com (AZ) [SW] SGC Runner Blue (UT) [WWC] ......I don't see any of them already listed as Major+, or having been bumped up to Major+ as a result of this recent rerating update. |
| Dec. 29, 2010 berger | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: ISA/SSUSA Senior Nationals Smooth01, don't know if your the team contact person for your team, or if your team participated in the 2010 ISA Nationals in Gallatin, but I'm pretty sure that is how I, and others, were made aware of the location for the 2011 ISA Nationals. | Oct. 30, 2010 berger | Topic: Website comments Discussion: profile Joe, don't know if it's "you", or even a problem with your computer. I tried editing my profile today, and all I get it a circular (searching) arrow......it just sets there, never completeing the process. Figured I'd just try again later. |
| Oct. 20, 2010 berger | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Can we make this a PHX Worlds Score thread?? Post results here To Andy, and everyone on Double Edge. Yes, we had been scoring a few runs in our games (prior to our championship game with you).....averaging 29 per game. Guess we should have saved a few of them for you guys, huh. I'm sorry we couldn't give you guys a better game. I honestly feel there were a few factors that played into our letdown. It seems as though we were setting goals for ourselves throughout the double-elimination portion of the tournament. Palm Springs Heat had beaten us in pool play....we had the opportunity to play them again in double-elim, and beat them. Minnesota Prize had beaten us earlier in the year at another tournament, so we wanted to take care of them, and did so when we met them in double-elim also. We played Bay State Bombers in the very 1st game of the double-elimination portion of this tournament. They are the ones that set the stage for our long treck by putting us in the loser's bracket in that very 1st game....so we wanted to avenge that loss, which we did. Then we had our sites set on Master Collision, because they double-dipped us back in the Rock-n-Reno tournament's championship games earler this year.....that mission was accomplished. At that point we had just finished our 4th back-to-back game on Sunday, and the championship lay ahead of us. I honestly feel my guys had been "getting up" for each-and-every game up to that point, and had simply given all they had to get there. They had climbed one mountain after another (playing a total of 10 games up to that point), and as much as we all wanted to win 2 more, it was just too much for them to make it through another game. We simply ran out of gas!!!! Sorry. All this being said, however, I do not want to take anything away from the way you guys played. You are very strong defensively (I feel you played GREAT fundamental ball).....and played "smart" defense. We got only a couple of balls past your pitcher, nothing past your 3rd baseman, etc. You are also solid offensively. I simply wish we could have given you better competition. Congratulations !!!!!.....and good luck in the Major+, if you guys stay together and go that route. Clint Berger Coach -- KC Kids |
| Aug. 7, 2010 berger | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: ISA Gallatin TN Sorry but I can't accept the fact that the flooding a few months back had anything to do with the current condition of the Triple Creek fields in Gallatin. If anyone stayed around and got soaked -- as I did Saturday night (instead of hustling to the car before the rain started) they were able to see the primary problem with those fields. They were "horribly" designed/built. As I walked out of the park after that downpour (grateful that I hadn't gotten struck by the numerous lightning bolts that afternoon) both the infields, AND OUTFIELDS, were under about 2-3 inches of water. The ONLY parts of the outfields that were not under water, were the places where the "very few patches" of grass were growing. That was a clear indicator to me as to why there was so little grass out there.....because grass in any of the other parts of the outfields had no chance to grow. Any rain on those fields puts the other parts of the outfields under water (thus drowning out any grass seed, etc., attempting to grow). The land where the fences were located were at a higher elevation than the rest of the field......the water had no place to drain. So it just sat there -- drowning out any grass attempting to grow. It's hard to believe someone "just recently" designed, and built, those fields to those specifications. Those fields are NOT worthy of hosting a National Championship tournament !!!!! No warning tracks in the outfield either. |
| July 12, 2010 berger | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: SPA MAJOR NATIONAL,July 15,16 & 17th Sorry, but the KC Kids had to drop from the tournament as of yesteday. We were down to the bare minimum of players going to begin with -- since 4 of our player did not want to take off work, or could not get time off to travel on Wed., and then play Thurs. & Fri. Saturday, obvoiusly, was not a issue. Anyway, over this past weekend we had another 3 players drop (due to various reasons -- death in family, etc.). Majority of our players have played in this tournament in the past, and know how good it is, and really wanted to be there, but it would have "pretty much" been a waste of time, and money, for us to show up with a skeleton crew. Sorry. |
