Discussion: 2012 WESTERN NATIONAL TOC in Aurora....

Fires are 6o miles to the south and north of Denver. The Aurora fields are in the far far east side of town. A little hazey today and slight smell of smoke. Hey lets play softball!
I look forward to seeing everyone out here in Aug.

I had heard for LVSSA/SSUSA this month we will use Trump Rocks? Does anyone know if it will be the ASA, USSSA or ISA version? The Trump Stote's are good, but the Rocks' seem to just fly further.

Who's your pick to win at Mesquite / St George? I know a lot of teams made changes so it could be a fun event. I like my old team MI Sports to take 55 AAA. We played them 2 weeks ago and they were smoking the ball

Ive talked to a few Colorado guys about starting a new 50+ team. There is some interest but not overwhelming. If you connect to Colorado and have AAA/Major skills - drop me a line.

OK Guys - Since I started this thread - it's only fair to give an update. I knew better then to mess with my mojo, and now it bit me on my back side. On Sunday I broke my Miken Ultra during indoor BP. I purchased this bat at Rock n Reno in 2010.
Corky - I'm finally ready for a new bat.

Discussion: Bat Care

I keep reading on the Boards that Miken bats are fragile and I'm not agreeing with it. I think people are making some common mistakes that shorten the life span of their equipment.
A couple of suggestions:
1. If the weather is below 60 degrees - Don't use it! Pretty simple. Buy an ASA, USSSA, or wood bat to hit in inclement weather.
2. Keep the bat warm. Don't leave it in your vehicle at night - take it in and keep it warm.
3. Hit decent softballs in games and batting practice. We use 44 core 375 compression balls for Senior tournaments. Use the same for batting practice. If your using a bunch of old mix and match softballs for batting practice, toss them out and ONLY use softer core softballs.
4. Keep your practice softballs clean and dry. Once softballs get wet and grungy, they retain moisture and the added weight to the ball will damage your Senior bats.
5. Keep your softballs warm. If you keep your bats warm, then keep your softballs warm as well. The cold weather will make the softballs harder and amage your bats.
6, Keep your bat to yourslf. don't let friends and team mates use your bat. It;s very rare when a team mate admits to breaking your ba and replaces it.

Just a couple of suggestions - I usually get 2 years out of each of Mikens before they break. I have a lot invested in my bats, and cant afford to keep replacing them.

51 yr old Colorado based player

Coaches, you know your teams have injuries and you need to find the key role player with chemistry to make the run for worlds. We'll look no further. Plan ahead - and drop me a line now. I'm the guy you want on your team at crunch time.
Played both Major and AAA last year and I have a few references if needed. I play outfield, will catch, and can pitch in an emergency. Exceptional speed - and not afraid to be the pinch runner in the Phoenix heat. I hit the weight room this last year, re-tooled my swing and now hitting with more power and for a higher average.
I'm available if your team is going to LVSSA as well.

Michael - I spent time this past winter reworking my swing with Jamie Gowdy - Rapid Erectors (Denver 50 Major). He was AWESOME I had to take a loop out of my swing and make it short and compact to the pitch. The results speak for themselves. More power on line drives, back to hitting to all fields, more HR's and a renewed confidence in my game. Thanks Jamie!

Hi I played quite a bit of senior ball last year. Last years' team moved up to 55's and I got left behind. Ive played both Major and AAA, and all the different sanctions - SSUSA, SPA, LVSSA. I know the sacrafices it takes to win the "Ring" tournaments. I hit for average, with occasional pop, good arm, great speed in the outfield, Great at cutting down shots to the gaps and keeping runners from taking extra bases. I'm a Denver based player, so if your one of the seven surrounding states of Colorado - give me shout

The game at this stage is still being Mentally sound. You can make up for less ability by throwing to the proper base, hitting for singles, look for people out of position, running the bases correctly, and take advantage of what the other team gives you.
Homeruns are nice, but unless their in the last inning, your still done after scoring your 5.
