Jeff, no, we don't have any SPA on our current schedule this season-----------playing 50 Major now with CPOA Cleveland---------although we should be playing 55 LOL we only have 2 guys out of 18 between 50/55. We hold our own pretty well though. All SSUSA/ISSA and "maybe" one ISA in Indiana on tap this year.

We'd love to play in Akron/Barberton next month since we all live less than an hour from there, but no Major available.

We are playing in Toledo for the SSUSA/USSSA Humphries Tournament at end of June, probably closest one to you.

I was in Dalton three weeks ago unrelated to softball and stopped to see the complex------Good Luck there for sure, wow it looks like great venue !!!!!!!!!

after reading all of the above posts, I personally think the only equalizer (as long as we are going to have teams playing each other occasionally from other divisions) is to play to the lesser teams home run rule (and runs per inning)---------scratch the five runs and/or scratch the extra fields.

With only five runs allowed per inning, and home runs that game being equal, that should be enough???

Dancer, I will wait till SSUSA Staff tells me I am wrong & corrects me, but I don't think you get both the 5 runs AND an extra fielder???? Is one or the other. (at least in SSUSA tourney's???)

There might be an exception if you wound up at a tournament and played a team at least two classes above or bellow you??? I'm just guessing on that one??? (Maybe like 50 Major Plus against 50 AAA as example???)

Different Associations might have different rules.

I agree with NANCY ALLEN, the Stotes used at The Brickyard were flying all over the place.

In 50 Major, in several games, both teams hit their homer allotments, AND several were in the 400+ range.

Nancy, I also remember the last two days being "hotter" than " a little warm and humid" LOL------it was Sunny and about 90+

Jawood, I don't disagree with you at all, just playing by the rules we are told to play with----------as a major team we've received 5 runs against M+ and had to give five against AAA.

If there is anequalizer, I actually do like the thought of earning the 6th run (if possible) instead of ending an inning at five runs-------if you get it you get it and if you don't you don't.

I sometimes miss softball from 35+ years ago---------everybody played everybody straight up, no divisions, no homer limits.

We play 50 Major and often have to play a Major plus team at a few tournaments per year.

I have yet to see a team that "always" puts up 30 or 35 runs all the time--------------yes it happens in individual games or a couple/few games in a given tournament.

those 5 runs are hard to pass up.

On the other end of the stick, we have also had to spot runs to teams as occasionally they throw a 55 Major in our bracket as an example----------we have had teams decide to NOT take the runs against us and use the extra player.

There is no right or wrong answer-------but a full innings worth of 5 runs is hard to pass up on.

Most tournaments and associations I have been in, what they actually do is give you (1) run extra in innings 2 through 6----------so if you really scored (3) you add the (1) run and you scored (4)runs that inning.

I think they do it that way due to time limit games---------if you don't get all seven innings in due to "THE CLOCK" they don't want one team to have all five runs already on the scoreboard.

Good topic:

You are going to get feedback both ways.

However:

My Opinion is ALWAYS take the five (5) runs----------it is quite possible the extra fielder will never get a ball hit to them------------the five runs is HUGE------------because with a limit of five runs per inning, you are basically getting a Full Inning of extra runs in a seven inning game.

On the other hand if you are playing a team that shoots the middle, putting a 5th infielder detracts to that somewhat-----------or a rover defender too--------------but the five runs is hard to pass up on with limited runs allowed per inning anyway

I also assume the girl would need to be ON THE ROSTER.

One of my pals plays in the Florida Half Century Tournaments, and due to injuries at a tournament last month, they almost pulled a guys wife out of the stands to finish a tournament game------------I don't know how their association works, but my guess is she would have not been legally allowed to play if not on the roster??????

That team did not have to resort to doing this.

Lee thanks----------I wish we could go to Vegas---------again coordinating off dates from work for everybody is a challenge, but its still open for discussion.

I've played out there about 8/9 in the past, including, but not since, 2009 & 2010 when they had the winter nationals there (before the switch)

Mario, thanks for comments!!

No, it is highly unlikely we are going to Dalton this year.

However, we are shooting for 2016 on our "to do list"----------if you saw my post above, trying to get working guys off for a long weekend and either 11 hour drive or plane flights and a two hour drive to Dalton, realistically a 4/5 day weekend isn't going to work this year. We even explored flights from Cleveland to Chattanooga which basically is 10+ hours, with no direct flights.

On My world wide tour of the USA last Friday before the Indianapolis Tournament:

I was in Orlando Thursday afternoon, stayed in Atlanta Thursday night, I drove to Dalton Friday around 9:30AM, and stopped by to see the complex------wow--------pretty cool with the fields on top of the hill and the other fields below--------but everything was locked up---------I took a couple pics from outside the complex to show our guys.

I got back in car, drove to Nashville, then through Louisville and Kentucky Derby Traffic, and still got to the Managers meeting in Indianapolis at 5PM and had a cold beverage and chatted with Nancy and Dave.

Eleven hours of ball Sunday----------------counting our 7AM batting practice and back to back to back to back to back games.

Note to self-------DO NOT LOSE first game of Double Eliminaton!!!!! You guys beat us 28-27, in bottom of 7th, with nine straight hits and three bombs in bottom of 7th to knock us into losers bracket right off the bat.

It was quite a battle playing all day to get to play YOU again twice, but it was fun, and I am sorry somebody had to lose!!!!

Nancy, yes thanks for that info.

We do explore pretty much every tournament (SSUSA and other Associations) and ALL playing dates between April and Thanksgiving.

The one major issue we have ( as a 50's team) is everybody still works for a living--------we don't have any retirees, so trying to coordinate the same weekend for player availability is a challenge.

We have a set roster of 17 guys----------period----------all local guys who live within 25 miles of each other in the Cleveland area-------and our goal as a team, is to NOT pick up other players for tournaments unless an absolute emergency.

We are blessed to all be good friends who have pretty much known and played with/or against each other for 30+ years in local leagues and tournaments in Ohio.

Trying to blend work & travel schedules of Doctors/Tradesmen/CEO's/Truck Drivers/School Teachers/Engineers, and a whole lot of other professions in between, and NOT pick up other players is a challenge in itself.

We not only ignore & don't use the "border state" rule, LOL, we would probably have problems adding guys from the next county :-)

But it's what "WE" want to do.

There is a LOT to be said about going to (and winning often )tournaments with your VERY GOOD FRIENDS you've known for decades!!

Mario, thanks

We (CPOA/NOP) just played you (LS) multiple times in Indianapolis last weekend.

It looks like last year there was only (3) 50 Majors at Columbus though??

You guys have a nice team!!!

The one thing, (as you probably do know too) is we seem to play the same teams over and over & over & over again, no matter if we play in Ohio/Indiana/Michigan or even in Florida.

I'd hate to spend a couple "K" $$$ on motels, entry fees, and 6/7 driving hours to only play two teams all weekend.

But we will keep an eye on it.

Good Luck the rest of the summer!!!!!

Discussion: ISA Senior World Series Columbus Indiana ???

I am just inquiring, as we don't know much about this tournament at end of July/early August.

ISA in Columbus Indiana.

Do a lot of "50 Majors" usually attend each year????

6 to 7 hour drive for most of us, not sure if we can fit this in schedule or take time off work to get there???

Any input appreciated.

Thanks
