I don't know if there are "a lot" of teams coming this year in all divisions or not? Maybe something else is going on in town the first weekend in May?

I booked our teams motel rooms this weekend and was shocked most are taken already ( the ones listed near the Midwest Sports Complex)

We got ours just in time, but if your team is going you better book rooms ASAP

Bud: Do the Sunday sessions go on all day, after starting before 8AM????

My new home is closest to Soaring Eagle, are they doing this there too??

I am still living full time in Ohio, however, I will be down for a couple Tuesdays end of April & want to start getting my "try-out" process started?

Is there a contact guy for the try-outs, or d you just "show up" ?????

Does everybody have to try out? I've been playing on a 50 Major Team, the past few years in Ohio, and going to tournaments between both coasts??

I'm coming down between 4-18 and 4-30

Last year when I was there they had open hitting around 2PM (I think?) at Saddlebrook a couple days a week.

Does anybody know if they still do three open try-outs on Tuesdays???
I believe this was to get "your rating" and eligible for their drafts????

Thanks again and LOL

If you would have told me at age 25 I would still be playing at age 55, I would have told you, you're out of your mind!!!!!!!!!!!

Well here I am !!!!

Now I look ahead another 30 years ahead (I hope both I & we, all make it) and can still play at 85

CONGRATS and Kudos to that group for still playing, travelling, & continuing to enjoy the game!!!!!!

WOW!!!!

Discussion: Rating Question

I am looking around on this web-site and cannot find it BUT doesn't SSUSA have a chart that gives individual player ratings for all ages and divisions

I thought I saw a chart once where a 50 Major Plus Player has a rating of "9" or something like that and the chart was relatively easy to figure out-------where if you changed age or divisions you could not move down more than "1" player rating (or something like that) but could always "move up"

Is that chart available??? Is it on this site somewhere and I'm too dumb to find it???
I believe that chart would be helpful for ALL

I Sponsor a 50 Major team where majority of players are now 55, some still want to play 50 some don't.

Thanks

Discussion: Plantar Fasciitis

Good Topic.

I had one major bout with this right in the middle of the old Winter Worlds when they were in Las Vegas in November 2009. Pain hit me right in the middle of game as I was running out a double. I didn't know what it was. Took off my shoe and had a black and blue mark only the size of a dime under the arch of my foot, but it felt like a sharp knife was in there.

Doing nothing did not work, and I still had a couple more games to play this day and sunday. I (short term) found a pair of golf socks in my bat bag and rolled one up and stuck in under my arch inside my turf shoes and it got me through the tournament.

Upon return to Ohio saw my doc right away------------and as others stated above, your calf/Achilles/everything is all inter-twined with the bottom of your feet.

Luckily for me that year Vegas was in November and I had five months to heal before playing in April again.

I started taking a yoga class with several team-mates who found an instructor who catered to our needs (over 50 men) and didn't try to get us in poses 25 year old girls can do :)

WOW, the stretching we all started doing helped the planter issue, as well as preventative maintenance for other body injuries.

I also found standing with only toes balancing on a stair for instance, and letting the weight of your heals fall with gravity with just your toes holding you up stretches the calf/Achilles all the way through the heal and planter area of the foot.

Getting a good "doctor scholes" (or similar) gel insert for your shoes on a daily basis is huge. I wear them all the time now, in all my shoes, work or play, as gravity changes the way we walk as we age. The extra support is a must for many of us.

I DO KNOW a person who had surgery to correct this. In his case, the surgery made it worse. He walks with a limp now----------not saying that will happen to everybody but it did for him. I don't know all the details.

Discussion: Anyone tried the Combat Dirty two-piece bat?

Alan, I know its all a matter of preference or opinion.

In "your mind" what is the hottest, liveliest, & most durable bat on the market out there right now???

Some of the Miken's don't seem like the Miken's from 4/5/6 years ago.

Reebok kind of came and went???

Dudley I hear is OK ????? But pretty much same as the Reebok's??

Some people like your Ambush, although mine never seemed very lively???

Most Combats I have no idea, although I know a guy who has a red dirty and has hundreds of game swings with it, and he is still hitting monsters with it after three full years and league ball??

What do YOU think?

I might be missing something, but can SSUSA POST this chart someplace as a link on the main-web-site???

So anybody can access it anytime, all the time?

I overheard several guys in a fall ball league a couple nights ago, trying to figure out where they can play in different age divisions. This would be helpful.

MAYBE under the "Ratings" Tab already on this site?

I will begin sleeping better at night-------------for years I thought this was an issue with my computer :)

So I went and bought a new $2000 computer two weeks ago, exclusively to view tournament results, and still had the same issue :) :)

Discussion: Fields and Teams - Major Tournaments

In the "old days" we used to fly out to Vegas from Ohio and just play double elimination back in the 80's and 90's

I am all for eliminating the "seeding games" and just dive directly into the tournament. At least especially if "a lot of teams" are coming.

Or maybe play just ONE "seeding" game to loosen up instead of two or three????

Certainly I understand with expenses and etc. why some folks want to play more games if they are going to travel that far. But gosh, we all did double elimination "forever".

As a playing "sponsor"---------entry fees between $350 and $700+ are a little out of control. I (we) pay for hotels & more, & that's our problem, not SSUSA or any other organization, I (we) choose to do that.

I know inflation, and the fact I am in my 50's not my 30's anymore, the times change. But I miss paying $85 to $175 a tournament for entry fees LOL.

I often ask or hear how other teams did in various tournaments. Answers like, "we went 2-3, 3-3 or 2-4, or whatever often come up LOL---------one team told me they went 2-3 at a recent tourney.

What they don't tell you is they went 2-0 in meaningless seeding games, went 0-2 on Saturday in the games that count, and dropped into the triple elimination bracket and lost again to lose their 3rd.

My point of this is----------if we play less games (double elimination), the tournament moves along faster------entry fees cheaper, SSUSA overall expenses cheaper, you can get around weather delays a little better & more, more, & more.

On the other hand---------and I guess I am arguing with myself----------Here in the Ohio/Indiana/Michigan/Illinois area every tournament we go to, we play the same teams over and over and over again. For the love of softball, if we travel to Vegas/Florida or anywhere else it is "NICE" to just play some games against other guys---------so I do understand why playing at least 5 games (and hopefully more) is a good thing too.

What complex is 50 Major at this year?

We were at Potterville last year. It seems to rotate each year so I am assuming East Lansing this year???

CPOA Cleveland/Northern Ohio Printing (50) Major will be (and with a full roster this tournament :)

I think last time we saw Big 10 we had to play the tournament with 9 guys due to injuries and either flu or food poisoning at the hotel)

OK Congrats to all on a great tournament with outstanding weather!!!!!

Per the post, the 50 Majors played AAA teams in the "seeding games" but against each other in Double Elim play.

CPOA Cleveland/Northern Ohio Printing 50 Major Champions.

Special Congrats to Doug & Don's from Michigan who fought back through the loser bracket to the championship game!!!

Thanks to all who made it a good weekend!!!!

I don't know if I am understanding the format for this weekend in Maumee (Toledo) Ohio. (Dave Humphries Tournament)

SSUSA Tournament, locked roster through SSUSA web-site like normal. But the check could not be paid to SSUSA???

Brackets are on the Michigan USSSA web-site????? Hard to read & understand at least on formats on computers I am using. Nobody on my team seems to be able to figure it out either?

(5) 50 Major Teams, it looks like we are all playing AAA teams on Saturday???? But there are 7 or 8 AAA teams????

(4) game guarantee-------my suggestion would have been to have the 5 majors play a flight against each other, or at least seeding games and then go double elimination?

We're just going to go play ball and not worry about it, but it does seems "odd" ????

Maybe I'm missing something?
