I just received a balanced, 28oz Z3000 and a balanced, 28 oz Ultra II. The Z3000 feels significantly heavier than the Ultra II. I haven't weighed either of them, They may actually weigh differently, but it seems like swing weight might be a meaningful number for the manufacturers to put on the bat if there is a standard weigh of measuring it. |

| June 14, 2014 TexasTransplant | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Throwing rightj, despite you're earlier contention, and my somewhat agreement, I think you just named a bunch of things other than arm STRENGTH that can be improved: throwing mechanics, positioning, charging the ball aggressively, and game awareness. I've always thought that one of the things that sets baseball/softball apart from some other sports is that proper application of technique and knowledge can make a person an outstanding player even if they are not blessed with outstanding physical attributes. Of course, everything else being equal, fast and strong will usually prevail over slow and week! :) |

I would submit, however, that few of us spend nearly the time working on our throwing that we do on our hitting. I know that personally, while I hit several times a week, year round, any throwing in limited to pre-practice and pre-game, warm-up time. |
| June 1, 2014 TexasTransplant | Topic: Bats Discussion: Louisville Hyper-Z Titan, Don't disagree that there should be a way to get the bat approved before producing 1,000's. However, I've read accounts of this bat and the GSC bat being used in tournaments. It doesn't seem to me that its use should be allowed until it is available to the general public. By the way, I finally broke the prototype this morning and, despite my earlier comments, this particular one was very durable. I've been hitting it since late November and probably have put 2,000 to 2,500 swings on it, including some in marginal temperatures. That being said, we had a second one which a 50-ish former Super Major open player broke in his first round. |

I found it for sale today on one website but you had to call for a price. I did not proceed through the ordering process to see if it was actually in stock. I hit a prototype and it was very hot! The proto was probably too hot to be approved. |

Looking forward to the new infields, but hoping they've improved the outfields some as well. Wish there were more than 3 70's teams, but I guess that's the penalty for getting old. |
| March 26, 2014 TexasTransplant | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Left-handed third basemen I think that at many levels of Senior Softball having an able-bodied player capable of playing the position trumps many of the old baseball/softball stereotypes. I played on a 65+AA team that won the SPA Nationals and finished second in the SSUSA Championships with a left-handed shortstop. It's more about making the routine plays well and consistently than it is about making the spectacular plays. |

I can't seem to find that chart again (I may have even seen it on the softballfans board and not this one). If someone could direct me to that information, I would appreciate it. |

Unfortunately, he died last month and, even if they honor all the old orders, he will not be around to enjoy it. |

It does not seem like a quality location. Dugouts and seating areas were exactly as you described. Fields were marginal at best. I find it strange that both major senior organizations decided to have their big Texas tournaments at this complex last year (and apparently again this year). I did not play in the SSUSA event there last year, but did play in the SPA tournament in August. I was playing 65's and we started on Thursday. The gate was not manned and they did not charge admission, at least for the older divisions. Maybe because the participation was so low that it wasn't worth paying someone to man the gate. I don't know what they did for the younger groups. Maybe SPA struck a different deal with the Sportsplex than did SSUSA. Even though I live in the DFW area, I enjoy going to Houston to play. I know there are better facilities. A tournament billed as the "Texas State Championship" deserves a better venue. To some extent we are like addicts; we all want to play every chance we get. But if we continue to patronize events held at marginal facilities like this one, we deserve what we get. |

| Dec. 26, 2013 TexasTransplant | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Prayers for Roger "Doc" Clay I just learned that Doc passed away this morning. Please keep Barb in your prayers in the coming days. I was a late comer to Doc's long established hitting group in Dallas, but have always appreciated his letting me join in, even though I was no where near his caliber as a hitter. Although, he hadn't played much in recent years,, he was still dedicated to his BP group and was still a very strong hitter until the cancer interfered. Incidently, for those who don't know, Roger was known to everyone as "Doc" because he held a PhD in Chemical Engineering. Rest in Peace, Doc. |
