Dave, the 1 up rule would be a welcome change. Was it seriously considered?

Tim, I disagree with you on playing the lower division. Let teams work throughout the year to win back to back.

SSUSA is doing a good job with divisions as is. I think Tim is almost by himself thinking that teams should be broken up. But SSUSA always interested in feedback, just giving my 2 cents worth with my post.

Swing, I think we are agreeing with each other on moving more teams up. On the other, if it went to 3 divisions instead of 4, I would suggest reclassifying all, not just the major and major plus together.

Hi Nancy, we play in the brickyard every year. Last year we had 3 teams in it. Always a good well run tournament. We are trying to coordinate for a couple of other major plus teams to come play in it this year. Hopefully we will have some success.
Look forward to seeing you there.

Instead of looking at number of tournament wins for a year, make it number of top 2 finishes. When evaluating the Worlds, automatically bump top 15% finishers.

I have always thought 3 divisions were plenty.

All of the above Stick, plus hitting for the situation, not just clutch for your at bat. Being able to adjust to go opposite field, passing it down to the next batter if you have to just get on and save the HR. Reading the game situation, then do your job for that situation.

I wish we could have had enough to go this year, we planned on it up until the last few weeks of the deadline.

I understand SSUSA has a contract to hold it at the same time for a few years yet.

But what if it was held during the week after the Vegas nationals? People could just have an extended vacation and not have to plan travel twice.

JFSully, it may be ok to mess with baseball, but you better not be jumping on with that group of haters that says Santa Claus not real.

I agree with softballnuts if always swinging for power, but a lighter bat gives you more bat control when place hitting.

The pitcher/ss on that team was a hitter. Saw him hit with power and to all fields.

stick, I have to question your judgement on giving someone a compliment who obviously doesn't know his slapstick. Laurel & Hardy better than the Stooges? Come on.

Home team is an advantage because you know how many runs going in you have to score. In senior softball you are allowed 5 an inning, so it is not the same as the really good young teams where they can score enough in the top of the inning to intimidate the other team. If a team selects visitors they really are planning for a very good open inning, but that is putting a lot on the open inning being a big one.

They do have some statistics in the MLB on the advantage of home team, (through 2008) one place is

This is a stat on playoffs and the edge to the home team is .548

Softball is a much higher scoring and easier to score game so I would thing it would be a higher winning percentage.

I knew that there was more involved in it, but this sure is tough. 3 weekends starting to look more viable.

To understand it a little better...
Could (62 teams) 200 games be played in 2 days using 12 fields? On the first day of the tournament, do you plan 10 games on that day per field? I say 12 instead of 10 knowing that on the final day, the tournament needs to be finished earlier.

What park has the most fields to play on?

How many total games were played in Vegas this year?

What do you think of instead of a bunch of groups in a 3 day tournament to 1/2 of the groups play Friday & Saturday and the other half play Sunday and Monday?

Hi Mike,
A problem for me in this scenario is that I play on 2 teams, a 50 and 55. If the 50's and 55's were together, I could not play in both. I would be curious how many people do play on 2 teams at the worlds.

What about changing the tournaments to 2 day tournaments. Example have the 50's play Friday & Saturday and the 55's play Sunday & Monday. (or vice versa) Do similar for all age groups close in age. I would bet that many would come out early to watch the finals of the tournaments that finished on Saturday. I also would think that many more people would try to play in both where able.

Maybe it would affect the Monday games for the more senior age brackets and wouldn't work though.
