Discussion: Fields in Vegas

I just saw that the 50 AAA will be played at Shadow Rock.
I have never played there, but from all the discussions, it is pretty bad.
Will there be any efforts to make them playable this year?
I have played at BLD and it was great. I know Shadow Rock will never be like that, but I hope it will not be as bad as advertised.
Just my 2 cents.
PS, was this the park where everyone got sick drinking the water?

Discussion: Mobile tournament schedules....

I am wondering why the Mobile tournament schedule is such a secret. (I know it was sent to the managers)
One of the great things about the SSUSA message board is that the tournament schedule is usually posted here for everyone to look at. Most of the tournaments you can go to that tournament and see the schedule (or its posted on the top of the message board) Most players like to see the whole schedule, the teams that are playing etc. We all have friends that play and some of us like to watch the different age groups so it helps to know game times etc in all the divisions.
I am just wondering if its just me or would everyone else like to see the schedules put on the message board for all to see.

Discussion: another ratings question

A new 50 AAA team was started this year
Most players are just now 50 or did not play on SSUSA teams last year.

We have (1) 50 major player from last year (now 55)
We have (2) 55 major player from last year

The rest either have never played SSUSA or were not on a roster last year.
If a player was on a 50 major roster 2 years ago, (and did not play for a year on any roster) is he rated major or AAA?

Please help me out,

Discussion: Best Hitters in Senior Softball

Al Byersdorf from the Monster 50 major team is one of the best hitters out there.
He hits for a very high average and can hit it out just about anytime he wants to. He is one of the hardest outs I have ever pitched to.
He has had multiple tournaments (not games) that he made zero or one out for the whole tournament.
Just my 2 cents worth
PS, This is after he plays outfield most of the time.

Hey guys,

Just remember this one important thing:

The alternative to getting older is NOT a good thing.

Discussion: Wich weekend will be for the 50's in Vegas this year?

We have some guys that need to schedule their vacation before the end of the year.
Can anyone give me which weekend the 50's will be playing in Vegas this year.
I know it changes from year to year and we want to make sure guys have the time to get off from work.

Discussion: Are walks hits in Senior Softball?

It saves lots of time and effort (and arguments about if it was an error, etc) if you just count OBP.
Hits, walks, errors etc should count as hit. (if you get on base WITHOUT anyone getting out, count it as a hit. Very simple.
BUT.... When you do this, sacrifice flys are OUTS

You can't have it both ways.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Discussion: where are all the pitchers

Hey Skeptical,
If you ask 100 pitchers (that pitch all the time in tournaments), 98 of them will tell you a ball has hit the rubber and bounced funny off of it.
If you are one of the 2 that it hasn't happend to, you are very lucky.
Have you ever been hit ? If you say no, well.. we will leave it at that and i'll end this discussion,(because ALL pitchers that have pitched for a while have been hit at some time)It is part of the game.
Just my 2 cents

I don't like the mask, but its probably a good idea if you want to know the truth.
I will learn to live with it.

PS.. I am all form going back to the 6'-12' arc.

Forgot one last point:
As J33 said:
They are more dangerous than anything and it is pretty easy and quick for the field guys to take them up before the torunamnets.

Discussion: where are all the pitchers

I want to make a few statements to this new rule.
I have been pitching for over 30 years. (in most all divisions, and still pitch with the kids) I want to say that ANY pitcher who has pitched for many years and says they have never had any close calls or even says they have never been hit, IS EITHER LYING OR BEEN HIT TOO MANY TIME TO REMEMBER. It happens, if you pitch you know it happens, its part of the game.
I HATE the idea of wearing a mask, (never have before) but lets quit bitching about all the rules and either just play ball or stay home.
It is the way of softball now and we have to play by the rules if we want to play (And I am going to play until the day I die) It is waht we love to do or we wouldnt be out there every weekend.
I will NEVER say anything to batter that hits me by mistake or on purpose. If I don't like that possiblilty, I shouldn't be on the mound.(If you field the missles hit back at you, most folks will try to hit somewhere else)
Sorry for the rant, but it had to be said.

Then make the divisons:

That only makes the older group with one extra year.

I think most guys that are 55-58 still can play 50 ball
There is such a low number of 55 teams around, it just makes sense to combine the age groups.
Might have to try it in a few tournaments to see how it works.
Have and open roster for a couple of torunaments with these aga divisions and see how it works.
or put the question out to all the teams and players and see how the response is among everyone.
I plan on planning for many years and just would like to play in tournaments with more than 6 teams 9and mostly the same teams)

Here are a couple of ideas that should be discussed:
** change the age limits to 50-57, 58-65, then every 5 years
The 55 division is very small, and this would make the tournaments have more teams in each divison. (2 instead of 3) It would also let the associations make the tournaments more 2 day events than 3 day events (2 divisions takes less fields and time than 3 divisions)
** Make all the tournaments Sat and Sun only if possible.( it makes no sense for a 6 team divison to play 3 days) If players could save a little money on each tournament, maybe teams would be able to play in more tournaments or travel further.
** If possible, have complexes remove the pitching rubbers and just chalk a line. (I pitch and a raised rubber, or multiple rubbers in front on me bothers me more than anything) It is not that hard to pull up the rubbers and then replace them after the tourney.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Discussion: 50 Major Plus

I'm sorry to jump on your message, but..
I think that is a GREAT idea for ALL divisions.
I play 50 Major and would like that to happen in our division also. I really would like to play in 12-16 team tournaments that have different teams in it.

Discussion: Shoulder Surgery Recovery Time

I have had my rotator cuff repaired on both shoulders.
I had done in sept and was back playing ball in march. (never missed a
I pitch, so I didnt have to throw hard overhand, but had no discomfort throwing. It takes about a year to get all of your strength back.
Never hurt at all while batting.
Just make sure to do all your exercises at rehab and at home.

Discussion: Lower Back Pain Home Remedies

I have had back problems on and off for 30 years (including an operation,, which I only missed 30 days of
ICE,ICE,ICE at home for 20 mins every couple of hours at first and after games.etc. (even between games if you have a long break, then heat right before the next one)
Then icy hot (I use the stick) when you play.
Chiropractors have kept me going for all these years, I see him when it flares up real bad. (shouldn't take but 3-5 visits unless you are way out of whack)
The anti inflammatory works well, but you have to take it for a few weeks before you can tell the difference.
It the hotel has a hot tub, use it before games, if not a HOT-HOT shower.
But the biggest thing is ICE ICE ICE, It slows down the blood which causes the inflamation which causes the pain in your hip (its the siatic nerve (mispelled I am sure)
I play almost every weekend and a couple of times during the week, but if it starts hurting too much, miss the league games so you can play on the weekends.
One last thing, good drugs help you get through the weekend even if it just numbs a little of the pain.
Good luck in recovery.

Discussion: Hear your opinions?

We played in Raleigh , NC this past weekend.
There are a few things that I would like to hear everyone's opinions. Maybe someone can come up with a good solution. Everyone wants to make the tournaments bigger and better.

1. There was only (2) 50 major teams. What can we do to get more teams in these tournaments?
2. We only had one umpire for ALL our games, even the bracket games. I think there ought to be 2 umpires for the bracket games. (The single ump did a decent job, but having a base umpire would have helped tremendously on more than one close play.)
3. If there are only 2 teams and you play a best of 3 games, wouldn't it be a good idea to have one team home, then the next game swap home team. If it goes to a 3rd game, then flip a coin for home team?
4. If only 2 teams, then do away with the time limits for all three games (they did for the last 2, but we only got to play 6 innings in the first) they we all high scoring games and should have been decided in a full game. 2 of the 3 were won in the bottom of the 7th.
5. SSUSA had 2 tournaments last weekend and had three divisions with 2 teams each. and one with 3 teams (Mobile 2-50 major..2 50 major plus.and Raleigh 2--50 major and 3 50 AAA. SSUSA should look at their schedule and make these tournaments on different weekends to help make these tournaments bigger and better.

Lets hear your thoguhts
