Steve is a great hitter and a Christian man! Any team will benefit from adding Steve to their roster!
Best of luck in getting hooked up in Colorado or a bordering state!

Gary, I guess I won't be playing in the Mesquite tournament next year when I'm eligible to play up with you REAL senior guys! I can't cover the gaps on a 300 foot field now let alone a baseball field!
I Would suggest SSUSA (if they don't already have them scheduled) have EMTs at those huge fields where the 70s are to play.

Discussion: BUDDY HOPPER, TEXAS LEGENDS 70'S PASSES

Frankie, so sorry to hear of Buddy's passing - I am totally shocked. I really enjoyed my year playing with Buddy as our coach on the Guru Softball team in 2011. I had the distinct pleasure of having dinner with Buddy and getting to know the man off the softball field. He was truly a gentleman and will be missed.

Discussion: A.D. Starr bats

DieselDan, these bats are the Nightmare and are created by Kevin Schulstrom (Tattoball on this site). I have a 27oz which has a 2 ounce end load. They also have a 28 oz with a 3 ounce end load.
There are several big boys in Senior ball who have been swinging the Nightmare quite successfully. In addition to Kevin, Mark Canegallo (Buddah) and Pete Smith (from NJ) are guys I know who were swinging this bat back in the Fall when I bought mine in Virginia at the ISSA Nationals.
It took me quite a while to get used to the extra end load but I now like the feel and performance of this bat. It is very durable and I have heard of several guys who have several thousand swings on theirs.
I will use either this bat or the Dudley Lightning this year once we get to actually play some softball in Oklahoma!

Vern, I agree 100% with what you said. Our game is about OBA which is getting on base and not making outs.

Discussion: Passing of Fred Purvis

I had the privilege of playing with Fred on the Omen team this year - I cannot believe he is no longer with us. As has been said by several posters, Fred was one of the true gentlemen of our sport. Hitting in front of Fred, I knew I was going to get my swings because no one wanted to walk me and face Fred! My last memory of the big guy was having the opportunity to participate in a team dinner with Fred and Diane after the Las Vegas tournament. Fred, you are missed. Go with God, my friend.

Discussion: 1 and 1 pitch count

Dave, you summed it up nicely! Alternatively, we could just go to "1-pitch" and that will definitely speed up the game! 45-minute game slots could become the norm!
Now, for those who do not know me, I am stating this tongue-in-cheek!

Discussion: the new bat "Nightmare"

I agree with everything The Wood says...I hit the Nightmare with Kevin and Mark "Buddah" Canegallo in Virginia before I bought the 27. I also swung the 28 oz which has a 3 oz end load but I am not a "beast" like those two! So I chumped out and got the 27 oz which has a 2 oz end load. I'm still in the process of breaking it in and, for me, it has taken me a while to get used to the stiffness of the 2-piece construction. I'm liking the bat more and more. Improbably have 350+ Swings on it now
On the Dudley Lightening, I swung a DEMO that Gary Tryhorn had in Las Vegas and liked it right away. I got the 27 oz end load with the 12 inch barrel. I liked the bat out of the wrapper and it fits my swing well. I plan on using it in the Winter Worlds in Fort Myers.
Also, the disclaimers that Bob stated apply to me as well - I am not getting paid to sell either bat although I like them both!

Tim,home runs may be a 'dime a dozen' in your age group but they are NOT in over 60s ball. Our 65 Major Plus team (Omen) played 9 games and hit maybe 15 home runs. Even the big boys on Hamels and Rose don' hit 'em at will.

Congrats to all my friends on the Rimfire and Superior teams. It's always good to see and talk to Bill Gore and Joe 'Lefty' Falcon from Rimfire. And it was a great pleasure to see and visit with my old friend and teammate of many years Tom 'T-Bone' Malvich. And, as always , all the great players on the Hamels and Rose 65 teams. Keep in good health and we will try it again next year!

Discussion: 1 and 1 pitch count

This topic has been beaten to death year after year. It seems to me the younger seniors prefer the 1-1 count while the older (65+) by-and-large prefer the traditional count. I play in a senior league here in OKC that uses the 1-1 and I am not a fan. As someone said above, one bad call or pitch on the back corner and the hitter is at a big disadvantage. I have hit many more pitchers in our league than I have in tournaments (none) due to having to protect the plate much earlier in the count. Just my personal experience.
