I read this on another board but oh sooooo true.

Just about this time of the year Easton or Worth would come out with PHOTOS of their next year's bats and we were drooling for the next 3 months for more pictures, reviews, prices, reviews, demos and all that stuff...and would get answers like, "When we get it, you will get it" etc.......i miss those days but also remember that this was the beginning of the end for softball..too much emphasis on the hottest bats and longest balls and the game itself was onthe back burner...i am lucky to play in a over 39 league which is basically a 20 year reunion tour of the great leagues of yesteryear when a HR was inside the park variety...when a good game was 7-6 in 8 innings...when defense won games....when shooting the middle was considered a solid hit and not an act of retaliation or instigation......when the games ended the two teams had beers together and not threats of pounding the crap out of each other in the parking lot for 1) shooting the middle or 2) using juice/painted/sanded/shaved etc bats....you get the drift here...i miss the game and rivalries and comraderie of the good old days.

You are right. We will never see those days again. We started a 65+ rec league 4 yrs ago with those principals but within 4yrs it has turned into a hightly competitive league.

I have been saying for the last few years that I am glad in a way that I am coming to the end of my career with the way the sport is going even down in the local rec leagues (LOL).

I have played on the Senior circuit for 8 years. Each year the expense, entry fees and competition levels seems to have increased to the point where it is not getting to be fun, anymore. A group of senior players in Central Ohio have decided to take the approach, as our Southern & Western states , to create more senior tournaments throughout the state for league teams only. We are hoping that the adjoining states would get involved with us so that we can bring back the enjoyment and fun for the game as well as meeting new friends; while getting the expenses back to reality.
