STONEMAN check this link out is this BS or is there any validity to this. Apparently this is an attempt to show the increase in performance on an altered bat.

LECAK::: NO, it is not B. S. This study is a lil' flawed & does not go into details:: (I.E.) WHICH BATS & the amount of SHAVING. Also, 26 oz bats or 30 oz bats.

When 44 cor balls were tested, the 44 cor ball went thru the first 60 ft @ an increase of 3.57 MPH. It was stated that the 44 cor ball would or did travel 11 ft further than a 47 cor ball.

It appears that the Normal Break in period, taking batt' practice, 500 swings help increase the BBS, about 2 MPH.
Using other means, increased the BBS up to 7 or 8 MPH.
(That could mean 22 ft further.)

I have seen this done many times. A Blue Muzuno, w/ 1000 swings. No H.R. Then 50 swings against a tree stump. 6 out of 7 balls went sail' over the fence. This broken in bat on a stump, got 30 to 50 ft more feet.

Adding weight to a bat did not seem to make much diff. HERE IS WERE THESE 3 MEN may have FAILED. The real hot bats r shaved & then end loaded 3 ozs. (I.E.) A 28 oz bat is shaved 2 to 3 oz. Then 2 to 3 oz or more r added to the END CAP. I do not know if, this last method is used much:: 5 to 8 ozs may or may not be added to the handle.
What this does is give a higher M.O.I. The paid pro's swing 3 oz END LOADS that weight about 32 ozs.

Also, some will buy a 29 or 30 oz bat & have 2 to 3 ozs shaved & no END LOAD. Expoy & Gorllia Glue, r most bat 'doc' way of end loading.

As far as shaved bats, it appears that the BBS, will increase 3 to 7 MPH. Again, that's about 11 to 22 ft.

LAST POINTS: Wash' State U., had the 1st high speed testing lab. Balls r hitting the bats @ over 60 MPH. If, u have the time, one must c this high speed video. This shows just where a bat deflects & that the back of a batted ball will blow, deform. Bats deform more in the long. postion. (Lenght of a bat.) Also, but not as much in the width.

Go to: http://www.Kettering.ed/~drussell
Then scroll down to & click on ACOUSTICS of BASEBALL BATS. Then click on: 'WHAT HAPPENS WHEN BALL MEETS BATS."

Gary Heifner, Tater 50, Joncon, Einstein, Fred Scerra, u'll: U SHOULD SEE THIS VIDEO.

My last Question:: 1) I would have liked to know which bats were used? 2) What was the wall thichness before & after the bats were shaved?
when the 1st bunch of MIKENS, came out I heard that the (BAT DOCTORS WERE) shaving bats down to 94 ......, Then down to 90 .... then down to 88 ...... The 88 thickness, was good 4 about 100 to 150 swings.

Sorry, to be so, long... But, there still r some areas that were not answered. THE MOST IMPORTANT: WHICH BATS & the amount of SHAVING.

Stoneman: thanks for the info; will view the video. And also thanks for keeping us abreast of the mechanics of the bats & balls.
